Skepticism

Granting GMA a temporary reprieve

Some of you with normal attention spans may remember me blasting Good Morning America for giving airtime to the remarkably stupid Indigo Kids. Well, now I’m going to ask you to tune in again. I know, I know, I’m a fickle bitch.

Tomorrow, aka Saturday August 5, GMA’s weekend edition will have a brief appearance by a skepchick, Wendy Chao. Those of you with slightly better-than-normal attention spans may remember Wendy from my post about the absurdities of finding a decent-fitting pair of jeans. She was quoted in the Boston Globe article as a person who now needs to buy jeans sized double zero — her quote was funny, but factually incorrect. She wrote in to me and commented on the blog that she was misquoted, setting the record straight on her very well-done site.

So anyway, check out her appearance on GMA. I’m hoping that a clip will be available on their site soon. Way to go, Wendy!

In related news, I just bought a new pair of jeans. I’ve discovered that the way to buy work-safe jeans that don’t make me look like a slut are to avoid the “curvy stretch” varieties and go for the “straight leg” or “boyfriend” jeans. Aha. I feel like I’ve uncovered a new clue in the greater Mystery of Jeans Shopping. Next step: figuring out why I’m 5’7 but every pair of jeans I buy are way too long.

  1. While we're discussing clothes, someone tell me how I managed to walk into Macy's wearing a pair of size 13s (which fit perfectly but had worn-out soles) and wound up buying a pair of 11.5s. Are the laws of physical reality changing or are shoe manufacturers simply INSANE?

  2. Neither, That would be a logical fallacy of false Dichotomy. But a false dichotomy gets you into some very interesting clubs in NYC and they are very picky about shoes.

  3. Maybe the jeans are too long because you're supposed to fold over the edges of the pantlegs?

  4. In a world where we have to view so many things with skepticism, it is comforting to know that there are some things we can know beyond a shadow of a doubt.
