  • Gay teen worried he might be Christian -  “It’s like I get these weird urges sometimes, and suddenly I’m tempted to go behind my friends’ backs and attend a megachurch service, or censor books in the school library in some way. Even just the thought of organizing a CD-burning turns me on.” From James K.
  • Explanation for why it’s so damn cold out – It’s a government conspiracy, of course. From rajjan.

  1. Barbie needs to be a computer engineer then maybe she can explain to someone how flash is so over.

    /flash hate

Also the green sea slug might be a pet I could get behind!

  2. It all makes perfect sense…. Norway punched a “time hole” in the inversion layer with a high energy beam fired from a radar station… and that’s why the northern hemisphere is having a bad Winter and why we’re ‘exposed’ to further danger from an asteroid/comet that began shifting our poles in 2005. We know this because Anthony Nunan, an assistant general manager for risk management at Mitsubishi Corporation in Tokyo tells us. Why? Oh.. Why did we not see this disaster coming? The scientists have been lying to us and we’re all doomed.

On the flip side, that means the global warming trend is over.

  3. Is anyone else bothered by the choice of “Environmentalist” which isn’t actually a job title? My latest suggestion is that she should have been “LEED certified construction contractor Barbie” I guess it’s irrelevant because I voted for computer engineer Barbie. I hope they can commission Threadless to make her snarky teeshirt.

  4. So I tried to vote in the Barbie Poll from my iPhone and received this message: “Hey Girl! You need the most recent version of Flash to vote.
If you need help, ask a grownup”
How did it know I am a little girl?! It’s aliiiiivvvvve!

  5. Are there write-ins?
I vote for “Skepchick Barbie – Super Science Blogger.”

Failing that, “Surly Barbie, Ceramics Artist” would be fine…

  6. @intimeoflilacs: I am. I would have had to vote for Environmental Scientist or Environmental Engineer if they knew the difference. They can be pretty nerdy too!

Slugs creep me out, but I can’t deny the awesomeness of a photosynthesizing one.

  7. Top 10 unanswered questions in the universe include “Does biology operate on the quantum level?” but not “How did life begin?” COME ON!

  8. @Amanda: I realize that. But physicists and chemists have rather a lot to do with abiogenesis research. There are a couple biological questions in that list.
