Skepchick Presents: A Conversation with Dr. Eugenie Scott (Parts 7 & 8)

Having been involved for so many years, Eugenie Scott has a unique perspective on gender representation in rationalist circles. The following two videos contain discussion on women in skepticism and science, as well as on role models and their impact on young people. These two videos are the seventh and eighth segments in a series of nine. (You can see Parts 1 & 2 here, Parts 3 & 4 here, and Parts 5 & 6 here.)

  1. Okay, not sure how many caught this but at 7:03 of the part 7 video she says, “Over half of the women in graduate programs are female”.

That gave me a chuckle and just shows how even incredibly smart people can accidentally twist their words up. So it just makes it that much worse when people like Ray Comfort Quote Mine.

  2. @Arguendo:

Yeah, I saw that when I was editing, but I couldn’t really do much about it. I figured everyone would know what she meant, anyway.

These two videos are probably my favorite part of the interview. I’d like to hear more about the origin of the skeptical movement from her in the future.
