  1. Saw this on PZ’s blog a while back and then on digg. Sam, maybe that’s where you remember it some. The narrator also has a few other videos that may have sparked a memory. Good stuff, and a good one to share with others.

  2. A friend linked to it through his twitters and I ended up spending a couple of hours watching Brian Brushwood talk about psuedo-science. All in all it was pretty damn awesome. (check out the side bar link suggestions, the Brushwood talks start with “SSS”)

  3. hmmm, I wonder if that guy has a skeptical podcast… I already listen to 3 and one more wouldn’t hurt.

  4. You know, I want to forward this onto a cousin of mine, who is an author on a small scale and does some low-level dream analysis as well.

She’s about to publish another book on the “spiritual realm”, and she asked me for advice on promoting it. The first thing I asked her was who her target audience was. She told me she was looking for skeptics.

It was a miracle I didn’t burst out laughing. Perhaps if you stretch the broad definition of skepticism, she’s skeptical, but not really.

As long as I’ve known her (and that would be my entire life), she’s never had a reasoned thought, and she forwards all the urban legend spam e-mail she can find as important truths. If she posted here, he logic would be shredded to bits within 10 minutes. But she’d accuse everyone of being closed-minded for not agreeing with her.

I’m sure if I showed her this, she’d just tell me that I was closed-minded and I just don’t need that aggravation.

  5. Extraordinarily clear thinking and well produced video. I know someone who, like Chasmosaur’s cousin, is very closed-minded but in a born again christian conservative religious sense rather than what he is taking about. Anything at all that challenges his belief system is not to be listened to because it is the work of Satan. It is a shame too because in all other ways, this is a perfectly intelligent and nice person. I wish there was a way I could get him to listen to a video like this such that he could understand and accept the truth of it. Sadly, there is just no way to make a dent in a belief system that strong. Ordinarily would not care but people like him are constantly trying to legislate that belief system and impose it on all of us because according to him, “America was founded on Christian Values”. If I hear that one more time, I’m going to spit up on the rug…

  6. Very well done video. He sounds a little like thunderfOOt on you tube or maybe it’s the accent that I am being confused with.

  7. This is great. I watched it @ work with no sound and don’t feel like I missed anything!

Dnver7M, I can relate totally to what you say about these people that close thier eyes and cover thier ears when asked to think critically about *thier* sky guy. It seems we’ll never get anywhere with them. ‘Might as well plan on spitting up on the rug…
