A Tale of Two Sessions

What’s new in the wacky world of authoritarian-republican-American-regimes? Well, thanks for asking! On Tuesday night Trump managed to read his way through a TelePrompTer speech while actually wearing a suit that fit! This allowed your average cable TV news watcher to view him as almost human! Oh the joy Fox News must have felt that night as 45 reached the lowest bar ever set for an American president. He spoke coherently. This is something that the press fawned and giggled over with glee for approximately 12 whole hours! Hope you enjoyed it! The rest of us were watching with horror as he announced the forming of an org called VOICE set up for “victims of immigrant crime” to make reports against, yeah, you guessed it, immigrants. Cuz the beefed up and empowered police and ICE force isn’t enough. What Americans need is a faster, easier way to deport that pesky neighbor you don’t like for whatever reason you can think of, so you can get them removed or placed in a private prison. Trump’s deportation plan states the intended removal of immigrants “accused of crimes” even if they haven’t been convicted. Sounds fair and not like the page out of the Nazi play book when they created crime lists used to imprison and exterminate Jews in WW2. Then there was that horrible moment in the Joint Sessions speech when Trump used the widow of a Navy Seal in a super gross way and told her during the speech that her dead husband was smiling down from heaven, for breaking an APPLAUSE record. Why would anyone say that? Oh right, Trump would say that, just like he said it was the military and Obama’s fault that the navy seal died instead of taking any responsibility for sending the order to send him in to battle. But hey everyone, it didn’t look like Trump scotch-taped his tie to his shirt so we’re all cool with him being in charge now, right!

But the day after the Joint Session speech while everyone was basking in the afterglow of,  “Trump’s new tone” and Malania’s $10,000 dress, Attorney General Jeff Sessions got caught telling a whopper of a lie. We all know that lies flow out of the Trump administration like water flowing out of a central California dam spillway but this particular lie is a big deal. This lie was told under oath and that’s a crime of it’s own. The man in charge of the justice department and in charge of overseeeing the Trump Russia connection investigation got caught telling lies while under oath during senate confirmations about the Trump Russia connection. Got it? if not, just google it. I’m sure more information will be out hourly along with thrashing, kicking, denial and more lies. As of posting this, Sessions has already claimed no wrongdoing while democrats are demanding he resign or at the minimum, recuse himself from any further investigations into Russia.

In reason we trust. The truth will set us free, or make us free again- and maybe even put some of the 45 men behind bars.

  1. I say this all the time, but all I ever hear is “false equivalency!!!” ALL politicians lie. The Obama administration was not averse to lying it’s ass off, even to Congress. Is the Trump administration more full of shit than the Obama administration? Almost certainly. But this is a matter of degree, not of principle.

If you’re willing to accept lies from politicians you agree with–no matter how small and how well intentioned you believe them to be–then you must be willing to accept them from politicians you don’t agree with.

  2. Colluding with an enemy is not merely a lie, it is treason.

There are too many incidences of treasony-goodness in Twitler’s administration to let him slide.

No wonder he like Andrew Jackson so much, it’s the only administration that makes his looks ethical.

    1. >Colluding with an enemy is not merely a lie, it is treason.

The United States has maintained diplomatic and trade relations with the Russian Federation since its founding. Are those relations currently strained? Yes, but the Russian Federation would hardly be considered an enemy by the standards of modern international relations.

Further, as far as I know nothing has been published about the subject of the meeting between Sessions and Sergey Kislyak, so any charge of treason is premature.

Unless, of course, you have a political ax to grind…

      1. Trump has surrounded himself with people who spoke with Russia BEFORE HE WAS PRESIDENT but after he invited Russia (which, even you will admit, is a foreign government) to hack his opponent’s e-mails.

I don’t like that we have a conman as president, but this is more connecting the dots then a political ax to grind.

As for whether charges are premature, I wasn’t calling for charges, I was describing actions. I don’t care if he is charged as long as he is removed.
