Quickies: Leslie Jones, protesting gun laws with dildos, and abusive behaviors

  • They want to destroy Leslie Jones – “But to the racist, misogynist internet, just letting Jones and her fans enjoy this moment could not stand. You see, Jones is black, female, and middle-aged, and therefore, in their eyes, she must be punished and humiliated for her success. On Wednesday, hackers attacked Jones’s website, replacing her regular content with stolen nude photos, private information, and racist gorilla imagery.”
  • Cocks not glocks: Texas students carry dildos on campus to protest gun law – “The Campus (Dildo) Carry movement began last year when Jessica Jin, a University of Texas alum, organised a protest aiming to satirise the apparent absurdity of weapons being allowed on campus but not the showing of sex toys, which arguably contravenes university rules and a state law against displays of obscene items.” (Of course, NSFW due to photos of dildos.) • 5 common behaviors cis men may not realize are abusive (and how to stop them) – “If we, as men, can think of ourselves as “the good guys” and construct a boogey man abuser in our head, then we never have to turn the lens inward. We never have to consider the ways we’ve been socialized to be abusive.”
  • University will sue its own student newspaper for reporting on sexual assault case – “In an unprecedented move to keep the contents of a faculty sexual assault investigation secret, the University of Kentucky intends to sue its own student newspaper. In February, two months after being charged with sexual assault and harassment against two students in his department, James Harwood resigned from his position as an associate professor of entomology without stated cause.”

  1. Regarding the five behaviors of cis men; aside from intimidation, I’ve seen all of these behaviors encouraged and exhibited in women as often as men. The article might better have been titled “How anyone can avoid acting like an asshole.”

    1. Hell, I know an Oglala woman who shot a man who tried to rape her, but some people will say she’s horrible for having done so because #SolidarityIsForWhiteWomen.

  2. Forcing schools to allow guns in. Oh, Texas, I’d say “Don’t ever change.”, but please do.

That said, I’m a little sick of the use of psychoanalysis, which is just, you know, misogynistic pseudoscience and no better than hiring a psychic to interpret your dreams.
