Global Quickies: Savage Individuals, Woman Threatening Hawking Arrested, and Lots of Canada

CANADA
“A couple who failed to get proper medical treatment for their son who died of bacterial meningitis are going to spend time in custody. A judge in southern Alberta has sentenced David Stephan to four months in jail and his wife, Collet, is being given three months of strict house arrest — 24 hours a day, seven days a week. She will only be allowed to go out for medical appointments and church.”

MEXICO
Jehovah’s Witnesses accused of damaging Otomi religious site in Mexico. “The group calling itself Individualistas Tendiendo a lo Salvaje — translated as Individualists Who Lean Towards the Wild — have claimed responsibility for a murder in the chemistry faculty of Mexico’s biggest university. The group, that goes by its initials ITS and describes itself as “individualist-terrorist” made the claim in a statement uploaded onto a blog called “Eco-extremist Curse.” It describes itself as “at war with civilization and progress” that it blames for annihilating the individual. “ If you want to know more about this group, we’ve talked about them before.

Adverts promoting negative body images will be banned across the Transport for London (TfL) network from next month. As part of his mayoral election manifesto Sadiq Khan pledged to ban adverts promoting “unhealthy or unrealistic” body images.”
