  • Report: Scientology spy pretending to be a Time reporter tries to interview Paul Haggis – “When Haggis’ staff began to research Webber, it became apparent that there was no Time journalist with such a name, and Time magazine said they did not assign the piece nor do they have an employee named Mark Webber on staff. They were generally semi-literate, provocative, and fairly persistent before they eventually got banned.” From Amy.
  • How kicking a trash can became criminal for a 6th grader – “Diagnosed as autistic, the sixth-grader was being scolded for misbehavior one day and kicked a trash can at Linkhorne Middle School in Lynchburg, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. A police officer assigned to the school witnessed the tantrum, and filed a disorderly conduct charge against the sixth grader in juvenile court. Just weeks later, in November, Kayleb, who is African-American, disobeyed a new rule — this one just for him — that he wait while other kids left class. The principal sent the same school officer to get him.” This is the story of another child being funneled through the school-to-prison pipeline.
  • These Inspiring Women Are the Firsts in Their Fields – “First Women is a 10-year project that began in 2008 and will be revealed through a traveling exhibition in 2018, which marks the 100th anniversary of the year women were given the right to vote in the United Kingdom. The 100 women selected for the project have made their mark in art, sport, politics, science, and education. And although some of them are well-known, Corbin insists that’s not the point of the project.”
  • Racist Posts on NY Cop Blog Raise Ire at Time of Tension – “A blog hosting posts from former and current New York City officers reinforces the worst kinds of stereotypes.”
