Idiots Filming Anita Sarkeesian Exposé Break Up

Jordan Owen and Davis Aurini are two hilariously inept male supremacists who have been raking in thousands of dollars from their gullible loser brethren ostensibly to film a documentary exposing Anita Sarkeesian as a terrible person. Or something.

As a reminder, Sarkeesian is famous for making a series of extremely well-researched academic videos examining the role of gender and sexism in video games. When she started getting harassed by the likes of Owen and Aurini, people rallied to donate way more than she was asking in her Kickstarter campaign. She has followed through by creating long, detailed videos as she promised.

Meanwhile, man-gry men have tried and failed to prove that she’s a fraud. Previously, my favorite was the Tropes vs. Men Indiegogo campaign, in which men who accused Sarkeesian of stealing her Kickstarter money raised $3,000 and then seem to have promptly stole the money and disappeared.

But then along came Jordan Owen and Davis Aurini, two people so clownish that at first I genuinely believed that they were satirizing men’s rights activists. Owen is a typical neckbeard type – a little sad and possessing all the charisma of a potato. Aurini is something special: a wannabe Anton Lavey, all bald head and goatee, swishing a glass of Scotch while lounging in front of a skull he seriously has named “MacCarther.” MACCARTHER, you guys. He moves it from room to room so it’s always in the background as he films. It’s hilarious.

Oh and his past videos feature him being horrifically racist and misogynist, no shock. Here, watch these guys in action, if you can:

They went with Patreon to fund their anti-Anita “documentary”, pulling in nearly $9,000 every month to fund what their updates betrayed to be a horrible amateur nightmare of a “film.”

Anyway, all that is just background to today’s news: Owen has fired Aurini, claiming that Aurini blackmailed him for half of all the money they’ve raised (wait, wasn’t that supposed to be spent on filming??) or else Aurini would tell the world that Owen absconded with the money. (Hat tip to r/gamerghazi!)

The best part is that now both Aurini and Owen are claiming that they’re going to follow through and finish the “documentary,” meaning we’ll get two cringey pieces of shit for the price of one. Exciting!

There was a bit of a debate back when these guys first showed up on Patreon, since a lot of people thought Patreon should kick them off, as their campaign is pretty obviously just a harassment campaign with a painfully thin veneer of respectability. I’ve stayed quiet on it for the most part, even though I am also on Patreon (shameless plug) and these are the same sort of guys who harass me.

I’ve been quiet on it because I’m torn: on the one hand, this is obviously harassment and I wouldn’t blame Sarkeesian for being unnerved by it.

But on the other hand . . . this is hilarious. These two schmucks are so incredibly inept that it’s like watching a modern day Three Stooges, if there were only two stooges and they both hated women. I’m happy for them to be the most visible opponents of polite and well-reasoned criticism of sexism. Have at it, boys! Don’t hide your light under a bushel!

And keep these awesome “documentary” updates coming.

  1. Am I missing a reference as to why it’s so remarkable that he calls the skull MacCarther? I mean, besides the fact that he is a grown person who owns a named skull.

    1. I don’t know about least despicable. There was a piece on the Baffler about how signing up for a right-wing news site would get your email on a list that gets passed around, and you get inundated with hundreds of scams mostly targeting the elderly.

Scam artists know the right wing are easy marks if you cloak yourself in the airs of their ingroup, but they still mostly sucker at-risk populations, which makes them awful.

  2. Are you sure this isn’t a Poe? I’m not sure. is it really possible to produce something this bad without trying to?

    1. I think the opposite. If someone was deliberately trying to produce something this bad, they would inevitably fail and accidentally have better production values. These are too awful to be bad-on-purpose.

      1. Aurini is sort of a manifestation of Poe’s Law. His very persona is a satire of his self is real, and yet also includes his persona. It’s like recursive Poe’s Law. It’s just a neverending rabbit hole into stupidity.

  3. Umm… are these guys really comparing themselves to the bad guys in the DC universe? Or am I misunderstanding?

  4. I’ve often wondered what John Waters would look like if he were deep in denial. Now I know.

  5. After pulling up some video of these guys, Jordan Owen seems pretty boring, but Davis (M.J.) Aurini is freakin’ hilarious.

I’ve never seen someone try so hard to imitate a Bond villain and still expect to be taken seriously.

This is clearly a character he’s portraying, is their any chance he’s not for real? (It would explain him getting “fired”)

    1. I’m pretty sure he’s for real. My brother is rather like that (and also a libertarian nutcase).

  6. These two guys have to be the biggest clowns ever. They really come off as a parody. Owen, I actually felt bad for because Aurini and big slob buddy, Fatt Morney continue to tear Owen apart. Aurini even compared Owen to Eliot Rodgers but Aurini looked in the mirror. Has he seen what a disturbed, demented creep he really is inside and out. He is also one of the biggest hypocrites with his sappy videos on sex, relationships and chastity. Another thing is his obvious unresolved issues with his own sexuality. He tries so hard to act uber masculine that it comes across as a farce. Aurini is definitely someone who should institutionalize himself. What a shit show that entire Sarkeesian fiasco turned out to be and on top of that Aurini admitted that he never her videos.
