Auction: Hangout with an Astronomer and Group Astronomy Talk

This week’s auctions to raise money for science education and outreach at SkepchickCon are auctions for science education and outreach. I know, it’s a bit meta, but now’s your chance to get all your astronomy questions answered by our very own Noisy Astronomer, Dr. Nicole Gugliucci, while also contributing to the science education of others.
Nicole is offering two different astronomy education options for auction. The first is a chance to be on a Google Hangout with her, where she’ll answer your specific questions and talk about whatever astronomy-related topics you want to discuss. This auction has room for 9 people including Nicole, with a fixed price of $15 per person, although if that’s too steep for you, you can also make us an offer. Check out the details here.
The second auction is for Dr. Gugliucci to give a virtual talk to your group, such as your classroom, science meetup, astronomy club, Skeptics in the Pub, . . . any group, any where in the world. The starting price is $45, so if you can get 9 people to pool $5 or more to pool just a few dollars, all the astronomy knowledge is YOURS. Check out the details here.
For those who don’t know, Dr. Nicole Gugliucci is an astronomer with the citizen science project CosmoQuest and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She will also be a guest at SkepchickCon, running astronomy workshops and sitting on panels such as Kids Ask a Scientist, It’s (Not) Written in the Stars, Song of Ice and Fire and SCIENCE, and more.

And of course, we could also use your help with the costs of materials and supplies as well as travel expenses for our experts, all of which we cover on our own dime. We do not profit from this or get a cut of the CONvergence ticket sales, which is one of the reasons we are doing these auctions.

For those of you new to the purpose of these auctions and/or SkepchickCon, here’s the rundown:
SkepchickCon is the science and skepticism track at CONvergence, a sci-fi/fantasy conference held in the Minneapolis area every July 4th weekend (this year’s dates are July 3-7). For SkepchickCon 2014, not only will we have the usual panels and workshops, we’ll also be hosting all-day science and art activities and salons in our track room. Plus, we’ll have Roving Science, science experiments we can do throughout the con, such as with people waiting in lines.
As I mention above, we do not get a cut of the con ticket sales, so all expenses are completely covered by Skepchick. We do not profit at all from this con. If you can spare even five bucks, you can donate directly through Paypal to [email protected] (skepchick [at] skepchick.org).
