Bad Chart Thursday: Higher CEO Pay Decreases Smoking Rates

I was reading Heina’s recent article on #CVSQuits, the announcement by CVS Caremark that its drugstores would no longer be selling tobacco products, and something very interesting caught my eye. Heina points out that the decision is a publicity stunt, not one that will have a meaningful impact on public health, but buried in her arguments is the REAL REASON why this is the case.

The whole thing is a cover-up for what’s really going on behind the scenes, and not just at CVS but at corporations around the United States. It’s standard fare for all the Lefty McLiberals out there to comment on how CEO compensation continues to rise as pay and benefits for the average hourly US worker stagnates (actually falling in real hourly compensation terms), but what’s really going on here?

The TRUTH™ the Liberals don’t want you to know about: CEOs are selflessly increasing their own compensation to decrease smoking rates. In other words, they are getting richer just for the sake of public health.

You do want to be healthy, don’t you? Then support continued pay raises for the top 1% wealthy Americans. Or we’re all going to die.

  1. Little known fact, rich people now use $1000 bills to light their cigars, selflessly protecting the rest of us from the dangers of tobacco and surplus cash which if allowed to trickle down, would probably ultimately be spent on cigarettes by poor people. And gated, palatial mansions protect the rest of us from the dangers of second hand smoke. We should all be grateful.
