Auction: Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Humorotica

Cross-posted with Skepchick Events.

To help us raise money for science education and outreach at SkepchickCon, this week we have our first donated item from a reader, Angelina: a custom humorotica tale written to your specifications.

Here’s a sample tale she wrote of Big(foot) Love to give you an idea of what you’d be bidding on.

The auction starts at $25, and the winning bidder gets to choose the topic (Nessy? Alien abduction? Chupacabra?) and the main character (including name, gender, sexual orientation). Plus, for every additional $25, you get to specify an additional detail (such as setting, an additional character, a character speaking only in Taylor Swift lyrics, etc.). The story will be around 1,000 words, but will lengthen by an additional 500 words for every $100.

The auction ends next Sunday, February 16, at 9:00 pm Eastern time. Click here to bid anytime this week.

For those of you new to the purpose of these auctions and/or SkepchickCon, here’s the rundown:

SkepchickCon is the science and skepticism track at CONvergence, a sci-fi/fantasy conference held in the Minneapolis area every July 4th weekend (this year’s dates are July 3-6). For SkepchickCon 2014, not only will we have the usual panels and workshops, we’ll also be hosting all-day science and art activities and salons in our track room. Plus, we’ll have Roving Science, science experiments we can do throughout the con, such as with people waiting in lines.

But we need your help. We do not get a cut of the con ticket sales, so all expenses are completely covered by Skepchick. We do not profit at all from this con. If you can spare even five bucks, you can donate directly through Paypal to [email protected] (skepchick [at] skepchick.org).

Can’t afford to donate but still want to help out? Contact me at [email protected] (skepchickevents [at] gmail.com) for information on volunteer opportunities (from things you can do from the comfort of your own home to helping out at the con itself).

We also accept donations for future auctions. Have a quirky item you’re willing to part with that the Skepchick audience might like? Will to create or donate a handmade item? Have ideas for auctions you’d like to see? Let me know in the comments or by email.

Thanks so much for your support!

  1. Melanie Mallon,

Too bad I probably wouldn’t be able to bid that much. Not only would I like to help the cause, but I have a great idea for a potentially hilarious story.
