Last day for Light the Night raffle

Light the Night walks are an incredibly powerful way to contribute to cancer research, support, and education. You can join or support a team at any time, but today is the last day to do so and get entered in a raffle for gift cards. which you can use for yourself or to send useful items to families dealing with cancer, particularly those with someone in the hospital. You’d be surprised how meaningful small comfort items can be, even just lip balm for dry hospital air (if it’s allowed for a particular person–ask first).

The walks are sponsored by the Foundation Beyond Belief, and the money raised goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Once again this year, the Stiefel family is providing matching donations, so you can double your impact by joining or supporting a team. Here are the relevant details:

Join a team during Light The Night “Registration Week” and earn incentive prizes for taking part! Please join the Foundation Beyond Belief (FBB) Light The Night Walk (LTN) team to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Joining as a part of FBB’s international team will highlight nontheists giving globally and raise awareness for local secular groups. Local teams’ donation amounts will be aggregated together under FBB’s international team and the first $250,000 raised will be matched by Todd Stiefel and his family, which doubles the impact of our fundraising efforts.

The FBB LTN team organizers are having Registration Week August 5-11. If you are registered by the end of the week, you will be entered in a raffle for one of five $25 Amazon.com gift cards. If you captain a team, there are extra prizes for you: Team Captains of the four largest teams (including old and new walkers) will each receive a $100 gift card, and all Team Captains will all be entered in a drawing for a $25 AMEX card.

If you walked last year, your team is already in the walk system. All you need to do is join. If you didn’t walk last year, you can join an existing team in your area; LLS has already set up teams at every walk site in the US and Canada (for your convenience, see this list organized by state)! You can also form a new team by following this guide.

Please encourage your friends, family, and fellow freethinkers to join us in the fight against cancer!

Your efforts will provide lifesaving blood cancer research, free educational materials and patient support services, such as Family Support Groups. Over 1,000,000 people in the United States are currently living with, or are in remission from leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, or myeloma.  To date, LLS has invested more than $875 million in research aimed at treating and curing blood cancer, with $70 million in 2012 alone.
