At Skepchick Events, we’ve got a bunch of new contributors, and we’ve been busy behind the scenes preparing to relaunch the site with regular content. We’ll still have an ever-evolving comprehensive events calendar, but we also have some fantastic new writers dedicated to all topics related to what is at the heart of all events: community building.
You can look forward to interviews, posts on geek-crossover events (tech, gaming, sci-fi, etc.), discussions of making events more accessible, not only to people with disabilities but also to all ages and classes, and more. For example, starting Monday, we’ll have a weekly roundup of free events around the United States, Canada, and the world. Plus, we have interviews coming up next week with SB Morgaine on accessibility and with Ayanna Watson and Mandisa Thomas on the upcoming Blackout, their thoughts on the challenges of coming out as a black atheist, including finding an inclusive, welcoming community, and more.
One event that is busting some class barriers to taking part in cons is the FtBConscience online conference, which starts tonight. Free to attend. No travel or meal costs. Plus a much wider range of voices than we usually find at conferences.
The upshot? Last night, as we were chatting about the upcoming SE launch, atheist rodeos, and brewing science (you know, the usual business meeting), we decided to kick off the relaunch with a liveblogging event, covering as many FtBCon panels as we can over this coming weekend, starting tonight (Friday). If you plan to attend the con, or even if you can’t make part or all of it, you can get the live-action lowdown over at Skepchick Events, as well as get a taste of the new voices who will be writing for us and for you.
