EVENTS This Week: OC Freethought Alliance Con, Atlanta Skepticamp & More

This week’s post is going to be a quick rundown rather than the usual list of featured events because new events plug-in + sitewide technical difficulties = I’m drunk.

I know, I know. You look forward to that list every week. It’s an unending series of dramatic cliffhangers, an unfolding mystery. What will happen next? And WHERE?!

It’ll be okay. You WILL get by. In fact, I’m sure there’s a dramatic reading of the classifieds on YouTube somewhere to fill the list-shaped hole in your heart.

Anyway, I didn’t want to skip the post altogether because there is some cool shit going on this week in the secuskeptifreehumanatheist community. If you’re in Southern California, you can meet up with Heina, PZ, Greta, and more awesome people at the Orange County Freethought Alliance Con this weekend. On the other side of the US is Atlanta Skepticamp, an African American Humanist Society lecture by Bruce Jacobs on “Re-humanizing Race” (Baltimore), and appearances by the amazing atheist singer-songwriter Shelley Segal (at Boston Skeptics in the Pub and a Harvard Humanists’ Darwin Day panel).

Center for Inquiry Portland is holding a benefit concert to raise money for its Freethought Books Project, through which they donate secular and freethought books to people in prison, hospitals, and more. In Kelowna, BC, CFI is hosting “Changing My Mind: An Evening With Margaret Trudeau,” as part of Mental Health Week.

And of course, you know there’s magic going on, from the Mexican magician the Amazing Raúl in Vegas to illusionist Rod Robison in Kansas to a science-based magic show with Oliver Meech in the UK, not to mention my own sleight of hand at home involving eating all the Oreos in front of my children without them ever realizing they even exist. Ta DA! (And yes, there’s something up my sleeve. And in my pockets.)

As always, you can find more events on our events calendar. And if you’ve got an event to promote or one that you think people will want to know about, click here to send us the details and we’ll add it to the calendar.
