Skepchick Quickies 4.4

Well, the other Skepchicks are on party boats in the South Pacific, drinking cheap whiskey and “busy” with “work”… so I’M TAKING OVER THE MOFO QUICKIES TODAY! Prepare yourselves, kids. These are the quickies OF YOUR LIFE.*

  • Today is 4/4/13 and 1+3=4 so today is like 4/4/4. Which probably means something… like Sparklecorn. (Seizure warning)
  • Probably important: Science Based Medicine was hacked. Passwords were stolen. It could affect you.
  • Is the Y chromosome going away, putting humans in imminent danger of becoming a bonerless race? I won’t tell you the answer, but I’ll give you a hint: it involves skepticism… and boners. (sent in by Brian H.)
  • North Carolina is not about to be burdened by things like the constitutionally protected rights of their people. Nope. North Carolina will be a Christian state. Because when I think of a state dependent on kids smoking to sustain their economy, I think of how happy Jesus would be. (sent in by several of you)
  • MRA wants to prove that no one cares about abused men. Prank calls domestic abuse hotline. Is offered tons of help, declines it all, goes online to tell men that if they’re being abused, seeking help is useless because there’s none out there.Weird that the health and safety of men isn’t a top priority of men’s right’s activism… almost like it’s all about about hating women.
  • Jon Hamm needs to stop dressing like a total slut. It’s not our fault if he wants his dick wants to be photographed. (sent by Sasha)
  • And Will sent us this merman. Because you’re welcome.

ENJOY YOUR THURSDAYS, PEOPLE.

*your life for periods not exceeding 24 hours.

  1. Ah the merman!! So awesome.

Some of the hate he’s getting kind of blows my mind. You’d think he’s murdering puppies or something.

  2. Merman = awesome. I am pretty impressed by how realistic his fin looks in the water. Amazing work there.

The number of commenters who did. not. get. the satire in the John Hamm piece is kind of astounding.

NC…. siiiiigh. I really can’t say anything else about that.

      1. I can’t stop watching! The movement of his fin in the water is so realistic, I’m entranced. Look how the fin flows! I have so many questions. What kind of material does he use? How well does the material hold up in the water? Can he go back in time to that one season of Face Off and give pointers to the team who utterly failed at underwater costumes?

  3. Party of me wants to defend the bad rap NC is getting, or at least be disappointed, but ever since amendment 1 passed I really don’t have the energy much anymore.
FWIW the liberals here are trying really hard to reign in the crazy, it’s going to be a messy couple of years.

  4. On the Y chromosome thing, I’m really disappointed they didn’t go more into the Japanese spiny rat.

As for North Carolina… I find it especially amusing that the law they are attempting to pass directly contradicts their own constitution. Which means this is just a bunch of Republican lawmakers showing off their Jesus dicks while pissing money down the drain.

  5. The image of Jon Hamm wearing Hammer pants made my morning, though. I’m not sure why.

The North Carolina Republicans who voted to basically tell the supreme court and the feds to go pound sand are in for a rude awakening if they think they can actually get away with that, not to mention their supporters.

  7. I didn’t get the Jon Hamm piece until I googled Jan Hamm bulg.

Love the mermaid. He is awesome apparently the NC proposal was kiboshed by the re-election seeking republican leader.

The MRA story makes me sad. The reality is most places have su

The MRA story makes me sad. The reality is most places have support for abused men. They cannot go to a woman’s shelter. Period. If these a-holes don’t get why they are seriously ignorant.
