I think we need more information about the Dr Oz sued article. The home remedy was to heat up uncooked rice in socks and put them on his feet. the patient had neuropathy and couldn’t feel how hot the socks were. According to the same article, he warned “not to let the socks get too hot.” I have a belief that most articles about suing people are designed to get the sympathy of the of the defendant by leaving out key information. So if that’s true, what’s being left out?
The summons and complaint is available via the NY County Supreme Court website. There’s really nothing more in the complaint than is in the news. At this point there is very little information to go on as the case hasn’t gone to argument yet. While I am all for Dr. Oz getting called out for his quackery and sued if appropriate, this case doesn’t sound very promising to me. Interestingly enough, when I looked it up, there were records of ten lawsuits against Dr. Oz but the only other one that has information attached is a malpractice suit from a surgery he performed.

After all the quackery he’s promoted on his show, despite knowing better, I can’t believe this is what Dr. Oz gets in trouble for. This he can shrug off as a nuisance lawsuit. As for the IFLS blog being run by a woman? It’s not like she’s the only female science blogger, but with such a wide readership I guess she’s the only one a lot of her followers are reading. On the bright side, while the responses are sexist, they seem mostly well intentioned. It might not be much, but it’s better than death and rape threats. Hopefully, some will take it as a learning moment about women and science.

Ahem, my apologies. I find it quite disheartening that the common reacting to girls liking science is still such surprise, but I hope that this and the voting poll may help people a little bit with getting over sexism,Or at least make for some amazing science writing. : )
And besides, a five-year old finding an adorable Pterosaur is amazing enough for two Quickies-posts. ^_^

I’m very jealous of young Daisy. But shouldn’t the pterosaur be named Vectidraco daisymorrisii? I thought that the “ii” ending was for species named after people, and other endings like “ae” are for species named after places.
It was interesting cause I knew that IFLS was a wonan after I was finding some of the posts slightly sexist. Then I looked it up. I actually then left it alone. But I wonder if it was one of those. Cool chick syndromes she was having or a while (I just read Gone Girl- if you’ve read it you’ll understand).
As for the Dr Oz article. Isn’t the feet warming up actually the opposite of what happens? As a backpacker I always keep my feet warm if its cold out to stay warm. I wear a toque and gloves often as well. If its hot I often open the lower zipper to cool off my feet. Not being a Dr I w
