On March 18, 1965, Alexey Leonov, a cosmonaut, became the first person to do a spacewalk. On a related note, in Mary Roach’s Packing for Mars, she says that one of the differences between the American and Russian space programs is that the Americans were treated to a pre-launch breakfast of steak and eggs (to avoid using the bathroom as long as possible), whereas the Russians were given enemas and a bottle of vodka.

I personally hope the Steubenville rapists do not have a ‘promising future.’ They deserve to pay for what they did.

  2. Thankfully the criticism against CNN gained ground throughout the day. It’s scary and sad that the attitude is to feel sorry for these kids. I might have some sympathy if they plead guilty and apologized right off the bat. That was such a show that apology. It was designed to potentially help him in the future. “Look how sorry I was”. Fact is they aren’t sorry and would of likely done it again, if they already hadn’t. They are just sorry they are going to spend time in jail and get the label they deserve.

I read 30 of the scariest things. Very depressing. Lol

As for the CPAC panel. It’s not surprising that a right wing view would try to justify slavery in that way. It’s like the magdalene laundries. The church justified those by saying at least we’re taking care of them. Doesn’t matter how we treated them at least they had a bed. Ugh

  3. I wish CNN would stop having a future, geez.

Also, that entire CPAC panel was apparently non-stop, ahistorical train wreck even before the gentleman with the obvious racist ax to grind added his privileged whining to the mix.

Not surprised. CPAC is a Republican event, and the Republican party right now is dominated the religious right. Many of those people think that Barton is a historian

  4. It’s likely more people will sign the petition to get CNN to apologize than actually watch CNN.
