Afternoon Inquisition

AI: So much time…

I’m behind schedule… again… as always. Today it’s because I have a sick daughter, with a fever boogers gushing out of her face. And my son was sent home from school with blood gushing out of his face. It’s fucking gruesome here. And I’m monitoring asthma symptoms and watching for concussions. I just sat the kids down in front of the TV, “Nobody cough, nobody wheeze, nobody sleep, nobody barf and no one gets rushed to the ER. Got it?”

If only life weren’t constantly in my way, I could get so much done. But then, I guess there would be nothing to do. I’d just sit around and Instagram my coffee.

But one day… one day I will have time. And that day I will sit down and I will write a book. With pages. And information. And jokes. And page numbers. And other things that books have. It will be glorious. It might even be about something. Maybe.

What’s the thing you’d do if you were me and had time? What’s the thing you’d do if you were you and had time? What’s the thing you think everyone should do if they get time? Should I sacrifice my children to the gods and just write a book about my journey to divine sacrifice?

The Afternoon Inquisition (or AI) is a question posed to you, the Skepchick community. Look for it to appear Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3pm ET.

  1. Don’t kid yourself, my children are grown, I have all the time in the world (ok, apart from going to work a bit, now if only I didn’t have to go to work and earn a living) … and I still procrastinate, stop blaming the children, it’s not their fault

  2. If I didn’t have kids, I’d…

    I’d….

I’d know how to complete that statement. But since I’ve had growing children in my house for the past 22 years– essentially all of my adult life– I have no frikking idea what I would do if I had a grasp of that elusive thing called free time.

  3. I want ALL the time. I’m fortunate enough to have no children and a supportive partner who has enabled me to cut my hours at my soul killing job so I can do other things. The problem is, without excellent time management, it’s easy to waste it! I want to paint and craft and go to school and escape the awful job and have visits with friends and volunteer and and and and…. I keep lying to myself about how long things will take to complete. Somebody please organize me.

  4. Child sacrifice sure would sell like hotcakes, even moreso after being banned in certain countries. If I were me with more time, I would read books and actually sew fabric instead of collecting it like I do.
