Meet Rebecca at the Australian Skeptics National Convention This Weekend!
It’s here! The 2012 Australian Skeptics National Convention, being hosted by the Victorian Skeptics at the Spot Theatre in Melbourne November 30–December 2. The theme this year is Active Skepticism—Changing for the Better. Those of you in the neighborhood (or lucky enough to make the trip to the land of funny spellings) don’t want to miss a weekend packed with skeptical events and speakers, including our very own Rebecca Watson, who is not only speaking but co-hosting a Young Skeptics Lunch and helping wrap up the convention with a hilarious interactive Twitter Quiz!
The Thursday night private dinner with Rebecca, James Randi, and other speakers is sold out, I’m afraid, but you can still get tickets for the convention itself (single day or all weekend) here.

Friday, Nov. 30, Museum Meet and Greet
The convention officially kicks off with a cocktail party Friday night, complete with live music, at the Immigration Museum, where you can meet the speakers and other skeptics as well as tour the museum itself.

Saturday, Dec. 1, Speakers at the Spot
All day Saturday at the Spot Theatre (the nickname for the Economics and Commerce Building), on the Melbourne University campus, you can hear a range of speakers: James Randi, Adam van Langenberg, Krissy Wilson, Lynne Kelly, Paul Gallagher, Loretta Marron, and Rebecca Watson, plus a panel chaired by Richard Saunders.

Saturday night Convention Gala Dinner
Tickets sold separately.
Saturday night is the convention dinner at the Arts Centre, hosted by Simon Taylor, with a presentation by Brian Thompson. The annual Australian Skeptic Awards will also be awarded at this dinner.

Sunday, Dec. 2, Day 2 of Speakers
The second full day of the convention features more speakers at the Spot Theatre: DJ Grothe, Lawrence Leung, Ken Harvey, Rachael Dunlop, and Shane Greenup, plus another panel chaired by Richard Saunders, a Young Skeptics Lunch with Rebecca and DJ, and a Randi with Friends talk on being an active skeptic. Be sure to stick around for Rebecca’s Twitter Quiz, just after 4:00 pm, to help wrap up the convention that afternoon.

I find that behaviour unacceptable. The valour with which we armour our language from corruption forms the centre of my favourite nation’s economy. You should consider it a favour that we provide such colourful spelling to the world. It should be an honour that your overseas neighbours would go to such trouble.
