  1. My skeptical sensors are going off like crazy on the “Plasmacluster” A/C system that Honda claims can improve driver’s skin quality.

Don’t forget the heart for the apostrophe for the Honda Fit She’s. The steering wheel looks like a woman’s reproductive system. I wonder why they didn’t increase the size of the headlights and put nipples on them.

  2. “At the turn of the 20th century, electric cars were marketed to wives with the pitch that their lack of hand-crank starting would avoid broken shoulders and/or death.” Ah, the turn of the 20th century.

  3. I look forward to my future daughter asking me to help rebuild a car so I can go out, open and close the doors/hood/trunk a few times, kick the tires and make a loud “HMMMM” noise until she realizes that she needs to maybe ask someone else.

  4. If that Honda car for women really has a windshield that cuts 99% of UV rays, why don’t they have this in all of their cars? Is it unmanly to try to avoid skin cancer?

  5. Well, it is a lot nicer than some of his other gifts.

It’s interesting how some things are the work of Satan, but this isn’t one of them.

  6. Oh, and the other article misrepresents Akin’s statement. What Akin said is actually true. He did, in fact, hear that nonsense from a doctor. The body preventing pregnancy from rape is a real thing that many anti-abortionists believe.

      1. Worse. Much, much worse. He’s not any more credulous than any other right wing anti-abortion whackjob.

What he said is an actual thing that people believe. If you read right wing anti-abortion books you’ll find that yes, some of them actually make this claim. There’s actually a rift growing between grassroots conservatives and the pundits, because a lot of them feel that the pundits are throwing Akin under the bus. They are.

It’s like if he said the Earth was 9,000 years old and Fox News reported on it as though it was apparent to everybody watching that that was a stupid idea and there wasn’t any other side to it.

    1. COTW worthy! And I’m fairly sure the age gap and position of authority between Mary and the part of the trinity that impregnated her didn’t allow for any reasonable consent let alone a modicum of foreplay.

  7. But as we already know, women who are raped and don’t want to get pregnant can’t get pregnant, so obviously they wanted to get pregnant, so it isn’t a real rape, and thus everything is as god intended…

  8. Even if we, for the sake of argument, accept the possibility that it’s a gift from God, surely the law doesn’t require us to necessarily accept gifts we don’t want (from God or anybody else).

So it’s kind of a shit argument no matter how you look at it – even if we were to accept it, it’s still not an argument against abortion.

      1. Well, yeah, but the point still stands that even if you were to accept the statement “gift from God”, preposterous as it is, it still doesn’t excuse anything and doesn’t defend the notion that the woman should not be allowed to decide for herself whether to accept this “gift” or not.

  9. “A story that involes a girl and the internet and it’s uplifting? What madness is this?”

    Madness? This! Is! Skepchick!

In all seriousness, THAT is a great story.
And she could teach the makers of the Fit She’s a lesson or two (or more!).

  10. Wait, wait, so is magic sky daddy preventing rape pregnancy or encouraging it?

I mean, if you’re going to be a bunch of jackasses, the least you could do is be consistent about it.

  11. The story about DiMaria and her fiero are inspirational! I looked up her thread and it is fun to read and follow along with her project; that is being as being a prior owner of a fiero. My first car was also a fiero, and that was over fifteen years. It was an older car to own back then. Good luck to DiMaria, I have great memories of my first car!

  12. I still want to know: Fit She’s… What? The car OWNS something? The car is female and IS something? What the hell is the apostrophe for?

As for the rape gift… I guess that’s supposed to be the consolation prize. Don’t rapists carry Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco treat?

    Sigh.

Love the story about Kathryn DiMario and her Fiero! Its always nice to see a genuinely uplifting story. :)

  13. You know, I wouldn’t actually mind a car designed for women if I was the primary driver. But by designed for women I mean testing the crash safety using female dummies, and designing around that. Also give it a seatbelt that doesn’t slice my boobs in half, ratios and a clutch which I can comfortably reach, and tampon slots beside the cup holder (I’m only half kidding on this…).

You know what I wouldn’t give two shits about in my dream lady car? The colour.

  14. The “Fantasy Slut League” thing sounds like a typical moral panic, just like rainbow parties. So there are a few asshole guys at this one high school. The only reason this made news is because teenagers having any type of sexuality makes us freak out.

    1. Is that a real thing that happens? I’m watching season 3 of Veronica Mars and they show college age guys doing that.

I suppose it’s at least plausible, unlike the rainbow parties.

  15. It’s a shame that our omnipotent/omniscient god had an elaborate plan for a perfect world involving murder, rape, natural disasters, etc and then some women had to blind-side him with those abortions and ruin it all.

  16. Pink? Pink!!! Pffft.

My first car love was a mini. A baby poop brown mini. I loved that car. And many years later, we traded in the oh so sensible station wagon we’d bought for carting around babies and toddlers for a red, red car with real grunt up front and I loved that car too.

I hope Kathryn gets to keep her handmade car for a long, long time. And she’s probably got a group of lifelong on-line friends and supporters as well. Much better than a pink (ugh) car to be discarded like any other fashion item.

And I couldn’t agree more with kieath – a seatbelt design that doesn’t make you know, deep down, that women’s bodies were never in anyone’s mind when they put the things together. And you don’t need inch-long artificial nails to know that those handles and buttons and displays had only one kind/size/style of fingertips and hand strength in mind.

  17. That car for women reminds me of the Look Around You sketch about the computer for women. I’m having trouble finding it online, though that’s how I watched it the first time…

  18. Re: Republican Senate candidate: Conception from rape is a “gift from God”

According to NYMag, Mourdoch’s opponent isn’t a lot better:
    http://nymag.com/thecut/2012/10/mourdocks-opponent-just-the-lesser-of-two-evils.html

Mourdock’s opponent, Democrat Joe Donnelly, also believes “life begins at conception” and opposes abortion except for cases of rape and incest or to save the life of the mother.
