Comment of the Week – Temporary Masala Edition!

A.Real.Girl is, last I heard, trapped in a basement with Scott Sigler, shipping out copies of his new book, The MVP. If you think this sounds like fun, you’ve obviously never been in close proximity to the highly excitable, extremely ridiculous, Future Dark Øverlord. Anyway, apparently basements are notoriously bad for wi-fi access so she sent up a flare and I responded to help out with this week’s Comment of the Week! Check it out after the fold!

This week’s COTW comes from scribe999 on Bug Girl’s lice post, Lice, Lice Baby. Ok, ONE OF Bug Girl’s lice posts. That woman is obsessed, I swear… but I digress:

Kudos on the Vanilla Ice reference. Convergent evolution: It’s kinda like how Mark Wahlberg and Justin Timberlake both found ways to survive as film actors when their pop music niches ran dry. Poor, Vanilla Ice however…he failed to adapt successfully (as anyone who watched ‘Cool As Ice’ can attest to).

Congrats for a hilarious and very well thought-out example of convergent evolution in popular culture! :)

And don’t forget, starting next week, Atlanta will be hosting Dragon*Con and the Skeptrack and many of us (including A and Sigler) will be attending that as well as the Star Party! That video is from last year’s Dragon*Con and should give you a little taste of the madness that it involves. So, come say hi!

Thanks to Skepchick alum Jill Powell for the sweet COTW art!

Remember to nominate your favorite comments by replying with a “COTW”.   I hope you all have a peaches and sweet cream weekend!

  1. Way to go, Scribe!

That’s two good metaphors I’ve learned this week. The other one is about global warming (apparently from James Hansen): Climate scientists are always saying you can’t tell if a particular heat wave or hot month or even hot year is due to global warming, but the frequency and severity of such events is much greater due to CO2. People just don’t get this, and try to use the this as an argument against climate change. Here’s the analogy… Think of a baseball player who suddenly goes from hitting 25-30 home runs every year to hitting 70. You can never tell if any particular homer was due to the ‘roids, but you can be damn sure he’s on the juice.

  2. Also, if the skull of your climate grows bigger in its adult years…which is super unlikely…your climate is juicing.

  3. I am using my intense desire to go to Dragon*Con to devote myself to sewing tons of stuff in the hopes I can trade it for goods and services. Obviously that won’t be til next year, but maybe it’ll be fun then too.
