Come See Me at Sex & Secularism in Montreal!

Good news! The Canadian Humanists are hosting what’s sure to be a fascinating, entertaining conference called Sex and Secularism in Montreal next weekend, August 3-5. Better news! I’ll be there, along with badass mofos like Maryam Namazie, Greta Christina, Andrew Copson, and Humanist of the Year Sue Johanson, who many of you may know as the hilarious lady with the late-night sex advice show on basic cable. See the featured image for a refresher of how awesome she is.

I’m really looking forward to this one, not least because I want to shake that woman’s hand. Did you know that Sue started the first birth control clinic in a North American high school? SHE DID.

I also love that this con includes a strong LGBTQ sub-theme, plus there’s a “Humanism in the Arts” award, and for a conference of this size it’s fairly affordable at 239 CAD with rates for individual days if you prefer.

I go on early morning Sunday, so let’s not party too hard Saturday night, okay?

Oh who am I kidding. I know Greta’s going to tear that town apart.

Anyway, go! Register! Come say hello, my French Canadian friends!

  1. Damn, I just returned from Montreal today! If you’ve never been to that city, do go!

And don’t miss the fireworks competition on July 31 and August 3, 10:00pm (big hint: for free viewing, in a great location, Just past Pont Jacques-Cartier bridge, along Rue Notre-Dame East. This is along the St. Lawrence river, on the southern edge of Montreal island, and is just north of the Old Montreal/Vieux Port area. The city closes off this road, and thousands of people bring chairs and blankets to sit on. The fireworks are just across the river, in easy view and hearing)

    Hope this link works:

Oh right, there may be a few other events to see in town (laugh).

  2. I’ll also just mention that Montreal’s big anime con is the same weekend, for anyone that might be interested in going back and forth between the venues (they are close together) and/or cosplaying.
