- Jessica Ahlquist has won her lawsuit – “The religious banner that hangs in the auditorium at Rhode Island’s Cranston High School West will soon be coming down — the school has ten days to comply with the ruling.” Woohoo!
- Women in Secularism Conference – This May in Arlington, VA! Check out the amazing list of speakers including our very own Rebecca and Debbie.
- Striking a pose: Women and fantasy covers – Author Jim C. Hines in a photoshoot attempting to recreate cover poses of female fantasy characters. From Glenn (thank you, this made my morning!).
- 6 things I learned watching Ancient Aliens – Some ancient astronaut theorists believe…
I’m convinced Ancient Aliens built Tsoukalos’ hair.
I think you’re on to something. Actually I’m a scientist so I’ll happily endorse your theory and MAKE IT ACTUAL SCIENCE, cause I said so.
Also I may be an alien hybrid based purely upon the fact that green is my favorite color.
I think it might be a landing platform of some kind.
Well crap, so when they Goa’uld invade, we can blame this dude?
I love Ancient Aliens. It’s fun to watch and try to find all the logical fallacies.
I’ve considered making a drinking game out of it. The problem is coming up with a ruleset which would allow for my survival.
Sounds like a drinking game in the making!
I wanted to say something… something…uhm… intelligent… uhm… about Ancient Aliens…
Oh crap, all I can think of now is the Tsoukalos hair!
Loved the Jim Hines thing. In my spare time I draw a lot, and I’m currently working on a project based on the Valkyries from Norse mythology (well, I say currently, but I’ve been working on this for a long time now and it doesn’t look like it’s ever going to get finished). I mostly draw entirely from imagination, using little or no models or reference pictures, but occasionally I have some trouble with a pose or some anatomical feature, and I try to look up reference photos (for example in the stock images section of Deviantart). It’s really hard to find normal, realistic poses (especially when it comes to women handling medieval weaponry), because everyone is doing the stupid, unrealistic ‘sexy’ stuff, which is exactly what I don’t want.
My husband laughs at me every time we stumble upon Ancient Aliens. I leap for the remote but my blood is already boiling (not literally). That show makes me so angry because it tries to pass itself off as factual and scientific. I’m so glad someone has pointed out some of the problems with it.
The Jim Hines project was also very cool. I love his conclusion. Between projects like that and the Women in Reasonable Armor tumblr, maybe more people will get the idea.
Thanks for the “Striking a pose” bit – I think I found some interesting new sci-fi/fantasy from that blog post.
