Chicago: SitP with live musical guest Gesus!
Saturday night Chicago is gonna ROCK. Because we’re gonna be ROCKIN’. Because we got a BAND. To ROCK to. With Gesus! That’s right… GESUS.
Boston Skeptics’ host Liz Gaston will be here in Chicago at Galway Arms, giving a talk on skepticism and entertainment… and to prove her talk’s not all talk, she’s bringing the entertainment! She’s importing men from as far as Boston and Wisconsin to play a bad ass mofo show complete with vaccine songs you can use as an excuse to dance real close… because you’re all vaccinated and shit. And there’s music. So DANCE!
And get more info on the Facebook:
Chicago Skeptics in the Pub presents a double feature focused on science and skepticism in entertainement!
All the way from Boston, Boston Skeptic host Liz Gaston will kick off the event with a talk on just that! How is the way that science is seen altered by the entertainment industry and the media they produce? What are some good and bad examples of valid science in TV and films? In a world that increasingly gets what is considered sound knowledge from sources like CSI, Mythbusters or Oprah, this is a topic that can’t be ignored.
Then, all the way from the heart of Wisconsin and the far side of Boston, Folk Death will tear the house down with some acoustic tongue in cheek tunes! Folk Death has been kicking butt and taking names since 2006, and their songs that parody and comment on religion, unrealistic social standards and generally “WTF” topics have earned them a loyal following. Folk Death can always promise a fun time, so bring your thirst: the more you drink, they more kickass they get!
This is a double-kick to the neck of boredom, and we will have something for everyone!

And if you buy me a beer, I’ll get you in for free. How’s that? Pretty damn sweet.
Where: Galway Arms, 2442 Clark St, Chicago
When: Saturday, May 28
Liz speaks at 6pm
Folk Death plays at 8pm
Awesome happens all night long
See you Saturday!
Oh my gosh…I’m gong to be somewhere awesome while something awesome is happening? That never happens to me. WIN.
Most of Folk Death‘s songs are pretty raw and disturbing, much like the reality they describe. Some of their songs are soft and melodic and disturbing. Vitamin Beer, however, is pure awesome.
Disclaimer: They gave me my big break as a professional photographer… i.e. my one and only published work which is the pic or Liz and Mikey at the top. Mindy, can I join Mad Art Lab now?
P.S. Be forewarned, Liz’s talk is probably going to have lots of Buffy.
P.P.S. There’s a typo in the link to the Boston Skeptics site: a comma instead of a dot.
Folk Death = simply amazing! They are almost as good as a huge glass of straight whiskey….squirt right into your mouth. Don’t miss out on this one, guys and gals.
Haha, John…I replied to your comment instead of post by mistake. That’s cuz I was reading your fantastic review.
Liz here. Yay, I get to meet Mindy! And John, did you get the Folk Death cd before me??? Oh well, it’s ok, I got to be present for the recording:)
No, some of it is on line from the link on the facebook page.
Yay! I get to meet Liz! Also, is there actually a cover, or does Elyse just want free beer?
I just want free beer.
I might buy you a beer for being honest. And awesome.
Hey, that’s about me! Well, a third about me. *points* That part… that part right there, that is me…!
The description of us as “raw” is both accurate and a complement! Shockingly we haven’t hit too much trouble playing in the muffin-top of the Bible-belt: hard to not feel the satire.
Come for the talk (Liz is the brains in this one), but stay for the FOLK DEATH! We have love songs about beers and Jesus and video games and stuff! Can’t wait to meet you folks.
