Sunday AI: What are you looking forward to?

In 1.5 weeks I’m going to move across the country and start a completely new job.  I am both freaked out and excited about this.

The economy in Michigan continues to tank, and I’m happy that I found a job after my position was cut to 1/2 time because of failing state budgets.  I’m excited that I might get to have a garden again, since the last 2 years I’ve lived in a spot where I couldn’t dig and putter. In my new location, I will live near Weird Bug Lady, and will be on the east coast near of all sorts of skeptical friends!

Whoo Hoo!

Except…I also feel a bit like my cat, shown here trying to be just as cute as Maru. (And succeeding, I think.)  As excited as I am about starting over, I’d also like to hide in my bedroom with a bunch of books and 20 pints ofTiramisu Gelato, and let the world pass me by.

What are you looking forward to this week? Or, are you hiding in your cave?

  1. Starting to clean up the frayed ends from the last two crazy weeks. And having a weekend away from work at the end.

  2. I am in Hawai’i doing a job talk. It’s exciting to know that I will be moving within the next 2 months but also aggravating because I don’t yet know where I’ll be going.

    1. Are you a neurologist per chance? My husband just got back form the American Academy of Neurology conference there. Sadly, he only got out of the hotel once but he enjoyed a hike on Diamond Head volcano.

      1. Nope. I’m an IT person. I am kind of in the same boat though since I had yesterday to see the Waikiki area and stuck in meetings the next two days. Hubby gets a chance to wander around for both days so I’m going to get sun vicariously through him.

  3. My family and I are moving from MI too. We had gone back to school when it became apparent we had dead end jobs. In the next few months we will be moving on to another university and another state. I look forward to new challenges, new places to hike, and more sun!

  4. I’m looking forward to the sharp pain along the left side of my neck going away…stupid gym injuries.

    1. Do you think you will be bored? Or will this be an opportunity to do what you really want to do? I think I am about your age and I wonder myself. I might just lie in bed and read and comment on blogs and play games on my iPad. Or maybe I will do my part to save the world. I wonder.

      1. I anticipate (hope) there will be more doing what I want to do. More skeptical stuff, more golf, gardening, hiking, singing, travel, read more books, host more dinner parties, watch more movies, and perhaps smile a bit more.

  5. In two weeks I’ll be done with grad school, and my life afterward is one big question mark. I’m looking forward to the second part, having no schedule and no plans, but I could stay in grad school forever.

  6. Oh yeah, looking forward to TAM!! I only hide in my cave in terror when I have to speak in public, or do something when someone is watching over my shoulder. I shudder to think that I am being Oprah-esque but I really do think that pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is a good thing. And the east coast is a mecca for skeptics. Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome!

  7. There is SO much going on: We’re looking at another house tomorrow that has the potential to be THE house. If it is, we’re putting in an offer. I’m looking forward to getting my Synthroid dosage straightened out tomorrow. There’s a new business investment opportunity that looks very promising. I’m also looking forward to celebrating Hubby’s 50th birthday on one of Royal Caribbean’s megaships at the end of the month.
On top of all of that, I’m *always* looking forward to seeing what new skeptically-themed blog article submissions I might receive for the blog on Randi.org (want to submit? Email me at [email protected])

  8. I’ve got a big move across country coming up, too. I’m looking forward to (possibly) coming out as a skeptic and getting to know some like minded folks. I’m still working up my courage…

  9. Tomorrow I don’t have to wear a suit and tie. And my biggest decision will be Mimosa or Bloody Mary. Tomorrow I drop back to 40 hours a week. I am really looking forward to that.

  10. I also am moving to the other side of the country in a few weeks. From the west coast back to the east coast (where my family is). Big moves are exciting, are they not?

I’d love to get to know other skeptics once I get out there.

  11. I’m looking forward to the banquet where I hope to be awarded a scholarship, to being in a photo shoot for my school’s PR, and to trying out for a competition team. And to going home for Easter weekend…thank GOD (or at least the people who imagine him) for a three day weekend.

  12. I am in my second play. We just finished the first weekend of it’s three weekend run. I look forward to the associated adrenaline rush before the next two weekends and the artistic tightrope that is walked with my cast mates as we tell the story to be told. It’s the much needed artistic yin to my scientific yang.

  13. The Rapture Meeting and SkepiCal all within a week of each other, and maybe Maker Faire if I can fit in around being raptured.

  14. Wow, so many people are moving! I’m moving east as well…freaked out about leaving my job and everyone I know but geeked out with excitement about the newness of it all!

  15. It’s now Monday and I’m looking forward to next weekend. Maybe the water will be warm enough to get the kayak out.

  16. My internship this summer finding metabolic pathways dealing with drought and high salinity resistance in arabidopsis. And living the the bay area (finally!). And playing ultimate frisbee. Also cooking and eating dinner tonight.
