Afternoon Inquisition

AI: Your call

It’s been a rough few days. Japan is melting. And drowning. And on fire. And I think everyone in Wisconsin is being forced to work for free now or something. It’s like the powers of the universe were desperate to get Charlie Sheen out of the fucking news and the only way to do it was to try to murder half a country and destroy Mars’ Cheese Castle.

And now TMZ is reporting that the crazy old chick on American Idol isn’t Paula Abdul at all… it’s Steven Tyler. Weird.

With everything going on, I don’t know where to start. What do you want to talk about today?

The Afternoon Inquisition (or AI) is a question posed to you, the Skepchick community. Look for it to appear Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 3pm ET.

  1. This is the Skepchick blog, so we should discuss feminine skepticism!

I, for one, have discovered that a certain subset of males find the thinking ladyfolk sexy.

  2. We could talk about what to name the two house-plants I have in my bedroom (an aloe plant and a…something else). I’m thinking about naming them Captain Hammer and Dr. Horrible, but…I just don’t know.

Or how about Charlie Sheen? Can we go back to where he’s the only noteworthy thing in the news?

  3. @infinitemonkey: Well, based on this Muppet alignment chart…

Owl Translator – Captain Hammer & Dr. Horrbile are excellent names!

ClrBear430, I hear these creatures exist, but when I find them, they tend to be those who are skeptical about soap and deodorant or not old enough to vote.

Can we talk about how sad it is that tonight is the last episode of An Idiot Abroad?

  4. Unfortunately the ‘Warlock’ was on tv today. Kind of ridiculous MSNBC.

I have friends preaching about the evils of nuclear power cause of the disaster in japan.

And Aparently there are crazy Americans that insist the earthquake was god’s wrath and revenge for Pearl Harbour.

Oh the unusually cold temperatures where I live is proof there is no climate change.

  5. @knitty: I’ve heard that the temperatures are colder here because they’re warmer further north. Does anyone know where I can find some good sources for this, and the causal mechanism?

  6. I didn’t even know that anyone outside of Wisconsin and Illinois even knew about Mars Cheese Castle (which is awesome by the way, especially their cheese bread–toasted).

How about we talk about how pointless DST is?

  7. I am much further north than San Diego. To be more specific Im in Western Canada. We are notorious for talking about the weather. When the snow isn’t melting this time of year we get grumpy. :)

As for weather patterns. It’s not my specialty. Many parts of north America are dealing with late springs. I thought it might be cause large rodents saw their shadows. :P

  8. Oh man… anything other than what’s been in the news. The best varnish to use over a dark stain in pyrography? Something technical. Then I can feel like I am solving a problem.

    *wrings hands*

  9. @Jacob_V: I keep expecting Godzilla and his buddies to show up at any time. After all, what else can possibly go wrong in Japan that hasn’t already?
    Those poor people!

  10. @knitty: I spent several years working grveyard in a hotel in northern California (Humboldt County). One of favorite recuring questions was: “We’re going to be staying there next february. What’s the weather going to be like?”
