  2. @Gabrielbrawley: The friends of some friends of mine have homeschooled their son. He’s into reptiles, and wants to be a herpetologist when he gets out of school.

    Downside? His parents have raised him not to believe in evolution. In a few years, it’s going to be joyous hearing stories about his problems in college, because they’ve raised him to be stupid and helpless.

    I don’t see it as hopeless. I had reasonable parents, but in college I had to unlearn all the crap my high school taught me that was either simplified to the point of stupidity or outright wrong.
