But, Elyse, I really want to go. The thing is, I’m terrified of s’mores! How will I escape? Is there anywhere I can go for shelter?
Yes! I just called the campground this morning. There is a cottage available for rent for the evening! You can book it! You can put a sign on the door that says “No s’mores allowed!” The walls will also serve to protect you from cold temperatures, bugs, and face-eating bears.
Did you just say face-eating bears? Holy shit! Will they be there?
No. They will not. Or… at least they haven’t bought a ticket yet, so we’re not expecting them. Your face will be fine.
What kind of dog are you bringing?
She’s a pit bull. I’m going to be in the woods. With bears. I’m not fucking around. I’m bringing a pit bull.
Is your dog going to kill me?
Probably not. Unless you’re a bear. And even then, probably not.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! Especially if it’s nice to people and kills bears.

I wish I could be there, I listen to Astronomy Cast all the time and Pamela rocks. But, I’m far away, and sick, and afraid of face-eating bears
It is driving me absolutely crazy that I cannot afford to be there. :(

It’s a bit far, but I took the school’s telescope home with me for fall break. Hopefully I’ll figure out how it works despite not having used a telescope before. And if I’m very lucky there will be a couple of clear evening skies to point it at even if this weekend looks like a complete loss.
@Bjornar: best advice I can give you is get a book – Terry Dickenson’s Nightwatch is a good one – to give you things to look for with a telescope. Just pointing at random can be a very frustrating experience. And have fun!
