Skepticamp: Invented in Denver, perfected in Atlanta…

This weekend, Atlanta will be hosting our 2010 Skepticamp event! If you are in the area, I hope you will join us! We have extended the event to TWO full days this year, because one day simply couldn’t hold all the Atlanta Awesome. In fact, we’ve been so busy preparing for it that it snuck up on me before I had a chance to post about it earlier!

Our theme this year is “Critical Thinking for Everyone” and our goal is to encourage participation from new people in the community as well as to have some discussions about what we can do to make skepticism more accessible to everyone in our community, not just self-identifying skeptics.
Some highlights planned:

  • Nearly 20 speakers plus half a dozen or so ‘poster presentations’ – a new feature we’re trying out with Skepticamp this year
  • Derek and Swoopy from Skepticality have kindly agreed to MC the event
  • Cool giveaways from our fabulous sponsors
  • Homemade Louisiana gumbo for lunch on Sunday, donated by local philanthropist Stephen Guerra, who is raising funds for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life

I hope you’ll join us. Details are all at the Atlanta Skeptics website. If you can’t make it, we’ll also be streaming Skepticamp live via UStream so check us out! A huge thanks to Mark Ditsler at Abrupt Media for handling all our A/V needs.
