- Girl goalies and guy egos – “If any sport is likely to see the regular presence and eventual full integration of women into the men’s game, in my estimation it will almost certainly be in goal before anywhere else.” From Don.
- Cute Animal Friday! Gosling butts are so fluffycute. 43 things ruined by dogs. Kitty vs. parrot from Steve. And a plethora of animal pics from nowoo (warning, some sad ones in the mix).
Re: Bag End scale-model. Well, now I have to get a divorce and marry that lady. Ugh, I really don’t have time for this.
@Skept-artist: I don’t even like anything Tolkien but that model just amazes me. I love all the tiny foodstuffs.
RE: BagEnd – *Holy Hobbits*, Batman, this lady is crazy! Not necessarily in a bad way, but wow!
What amazes me is that she’s married with twin 1 year-olds. Really? So when these kids are older and the the house is decked out with a complete set for LOTR (dollhouse style), she’s either gonna be the coolest, or creepiest mom in the neighborhood. I’m not sure which.
Was it just me, or did anyone else want to see the goslings dressed as Nazgul pecking at the grass on top of the model?
@Garrison22: I’m thinking the lady of Bagend is OCD or a methamphetamine addict. What an amazing model! And just kidding about the meth.
Can I just say, in the “Animals in the News” article (“plethora of animal pics” link), there is a picture of a dude surfing…with his alpaca. A guy and a mini-llama on a surf board, surfing. There is hope in this world, after all.
I remember the goalie, Manon Rheaume, the only woman to have played in an NHL game (exhibition). She was interviewed by a Mike Francesa, a local NY sports radio guy, who creepily kept bringing the interview back to a modeling gig she had done…complete with discomfiting smile glued to his face. I was so embarrassed on his behalf.
@James Fox: Oh yeah, definitely OCD. I have a friend who is almost as obsessed with LOTR and I sent him the link. He was planning on doing something similar, but he also suffers from ADD, so he’s started it about 20 times in the last 10 years. I think he’s got a door and a hunk of grass.
@scribe999: Francesa? He’s not just *a* NY sports radio guy, he’s *the* guy. Unfortunately, he has what they call in the business, a “face made for radio”. He’s about 50 and I think still lives in his mom’s basement. He doesn’t have to work very hard to be creepy.
Re: Bag end from Lord of the Rings
About all I can say is “wow!!” I wish I had that kind of talent–not to mention time.
Thanks for the link Amanda & Teek.
There’s girls who play Warhammer?
Who knew?
That said, I have at this very moment, about 4 miniature/wargames terrain projects of a similar size on ice for simple lack of time. I figure I’ll get back to them some day (like when I’m no longer physically capable of doing live action role playing).
I’m also familiar with the crazy amount of time and effort spent on achieving such detail. The nicest compliment you can get is “where did you buy that?”
