Colon Cleansing and Vaccinations on Curiosity Aroused

Since I last plugged it here on Skepchick, there are two – YES TWO – new episodes of Curiosity Aroused ready for your enjoyment. As always, you can listen at curiosityaroused.com, via RSS, or on iTunes in the culture section. If you are on iTunes, please rate and comment!

Episode 4 Colon Cleansing: Probing Questions, Repulsive Answers

Put down your lunch, because Stacey interviews Harriet Hall about the benefits and drawbacks of flushing your innards out with water. An entertaining, informational, and sometimes slightly nauseating discussion.

Episode 5 Just the Vax: Are Vaccines Safe?

Are vaccines dangerous? Do they cause autism? How do they work? If they’re not dangerous, why do so many people choose not to vaccinate? On this episode of Curiosity Aroused, Amy and Elyse seek out a few experts to answer all our questions.

  1. Eugh. One of my best friends is mormon, and when we were in university, the “elders” (actually, young male missionaries) used to come over for breakfast at our apartment. They had recently visited another parishioner who was a naturopath, who had decided through “reading their blood” (whatever that means) that they needed to cleanse their colons. She made them each drink a full cup of olive oil, then instructed them to each down a gallon of apple cider over the course of the day. They arrived for breakfast with gallon jugs of cider & buckets for their barf. In addition, one of them was prescribed “rectal muscle exercises” because she decided that his rectum was too weak.

as with most other visits with the missionaries, I rolled my eyes & made sure there was lots of TP in the bathroom. :S

  2. Ummm that was really quite good. Excellent production quality, good consistent story flow, funny, interesting interviews (Harriet Hall was teh awesome). Lately, Skepticality’s interviews have been getting a little….eh, snoozy. This was way better than stuff they’ve been offering recently.

  3. I’ve already listened to your ep. 4 and really enjoyed it. I didn’t want to plug it w/o you announcing it, because that might steal your thunder.

Anyways, I found the topic both disturbing and somewhat relaxative. There was a crap-load of information there, but it wasn’t constipated. Fortunately, you didn’t have to go into the bowels of humor to make jokes. This episode was a movement in and of itself.

@Magnus H.: The last couple of eps from skepticality I dodn’t care for, but that’s because it was over a topic that I think can easily be taken out of context. Their latest, while it still can be taken out of context also, I’ve found very interesting.

  4. Have I mentioned how proud I am to be a part of such a wonderful podcast? I am.

Now, if I could just find Jenny McCarthy’s iPod…

  5. Loved the comment about how prep for a colonoscopy doesn’t make you feel great. I’ve been through this – the procedure was a piece of cake, the prep was awful, and no way did anything coming out ressemble fossilized crap. Not that I spent much time looking…
