Amanda Marcotte’s in Boston & COTW is Here!
First of all, I’d like to plug the coming together of two forces of awesome: Amanda Marcotte and the crew of Boston Skeptics.
This Monday (April 26), Amanda will be at The Brattle Theatre to talk about her new book, Get Opinionated: A Progressive’s Guide to Finding Your Voice (and Taking a Little Action). She’ll be discussing several topics of interest to skeptics, like why science should matter in politics, the political aspects of the anti-vaccination movement, and the creation of scientific “controversies†in the media. Find more info on BostonSkeptics.com or RSVP on Facebook!
Second of all, it’s Comment o’ the Week!
Since my week was trashed by a big stupid volcano, I laughed especially hard at this contribution from Bjornar, which should go into Urban Dictionary immediately:
I thought a dirty thunderstorm was a threesome including a man, a woman and a vandergraaf-generator…
Congratulations, Bjornar, and happy Friday to everyone! MMCL.
Dirty thunderstorm is already in the Urban Dictionary with several different definitions, none of them involving vandergraaf-generators.
Perhaps we should add one to the list.
@Narvi
That is so wrong.
Has anyone here tried this before and prepared to admit it?
What other nasty filth have people done when breaking up?
A Wimshurst generator works better.
Yay me!
And I apologise to anyone who looked the phrase up on Urban Dictionary because of this.
@Eric: I disagree. Haven’t you noticed the shape of the generic vandergraaf-generator?
@Bjornar: I’ve been resisting going to Urban Dictionary to look it up. Reading your comment, I think I’ll be able to hold out.
Congrats, Bjornar. Happy to see a fellow nordic come out on top.
