SkeptiCal
SkeptiCal is the inaugural Northern California Science and Skepticism Conference.
We have a skeptacular line-up of speakers, including Genie Scott, Brian Dunning, Seth Shostak, Brian Malow and me! The schedule includes lectures, breakout sessions and exhibits, and we’ll be talking creationism, psychics, alternative medicine, global warming, skepticism in the media, and much more.
SkeptiCal will be held on April 24, 2010, from 9Am to 6 PM at the David Brower Center in Berkeley, CA. We’ll also be holding a Skeptics in the Pub bash the Friday evening beforehand. More details to follow.
This event is co-sponsored by the San Francisco Bay Area Skeptics, and the Sacramento Area Skeptics.
Admission is limited, and we expect to sell out, so I encourage you to register soon. The cost is $40, or $55 including a spanking t-shirt!
Hope to see you there!
I will be there too. I will have a Surly table so be sure to stop by and say hello!
I’d be more interested in these conferences if the names weren’t so groan-inducing.
@BadKen What non-groan-inducing speakers would entice you to a conference?
@Karen Stollznow: BadKen is probably referring to “SkeptiCal” and not the speakers.
Anyway, is this like NECSS for the west coast? Sounds great!
@Skept-artist I’m still unsure as to what @BadKen means. If he’s referring to the title, it’s either short and snappy (and I came up with SkeptiCal…) or it’s something frightfully long-winded or ambiguous, like NECSS…
…Anyway, yes! Just like a NECSS for the west coast.
This will be a 200-attendees event and we hope to get bigger and better next year.
@Karen Stollznow: Well, maybe if you change the name of the conference to BadKenGetsLaid, then @BadKen: will attend. But then I suppose the rest of us will be groaning (No, not like that. Dirty minds… tsk)
@Skept-artist
How about:
SkeptiCal (BadKenGetsLaid)
for next year? Or it could be a motto or something. However, I believe in truth in advertising, and that’s just a big fucking lie…
@Karen: Hahaha! *sigh* I love this place.
I was thinking that the AmyandKarenRockSkeptiCal might be a good name too. Sounds like a heck of a lot more fun than BadKenGetsLaid.
Gah! That’s what I deserve for dropping a comment and not coming back for a couple days.
Yeah, I was referring to the punny conference name.
And really, nobody wants a BadKenGetsLaid conference. It would only be of interest to paleontologists, if anyone at all.
Karen, I’m on the east coast so I will not be at the conference, but I simply wanted to tell you that I truly enjoyed the Point of Inquiry podcast of 3/19. VERY well done!!!
@Amy AmyandKarenRockSkeptiCal is just fact…
@BadKen Thanks for the laughs at your expense! ;)
