Skepticon & Drinking Skepchickally This Weekend in Missouri!

People! Skepticon II is coming up soon — this Saturday, in fact! Join me, DJ Grothe, PZ Myers, Dan Barker, Richar Carrier, and Joe Nickell at Missouri State University Friday through Sunday.

Plus, we’ll be Drinking Skepchickally on Friday night at 7:30pm at the Fox and Hound English Pub and Grill (I think they’re trying to make me feel more at home).

So, will any of you be around?

For those of you poor suckers who can’t be there, you can still get your dose of me (for whatever reason) over on The Skeptic Magazine’s vodcast. Warning: it was the end of a very long night.

  1. Ah I wish I could be there, but I’m going to be in transit between my university in Columbia, MO and St. Louis when you’ll be there.

  2. My wife and I are so going to be there! One of the coolest things to happen to this little conservative town.
And Fox & Hound’s a nice little mega-chain sports bar that tries for a locally owned feel. They have great blackforest ham on soft pretzel bread sandwitches. :)
Can’t wait for the weekend! Hope you have a safe trip. :)

  3. This is my first time commenting on this blog as an avid lurker. It will also be my first time at a skeptical event! I’m driving in with my friends on Saturday, so I’ll miss the drinking skepchickally, but I’m hoping the festivities will continue into Saturday night!

  4. Avid lurker here… So, there are actually two Fox and Hound restaurants in our fair city… do you know if you’ll be at the one in St. Louis or the one in Chesterfield?

  5. I graduated from college and moved away to civilization 7 years too late for this. I wonder if biology professor John Heywood will be there. I remember him starting the first session of his evolution course by walking in late and saying “So, we’re all godless heathens, right?” I still have my course notes and pull them out every once in a while.

In addition to being a pretty great teacher, he also wrote a monthly (max allowed) letter to the editor of the local paper about current scientific/ evolution/ church-state issues. It was a difficult uphill battle in a town of mega-churches, confederate flags, and state university faculty who quoted the bible to “teach us about right and wrong”.

  6. Mizzoudavis? The only one I know of is on Independence. Used to go there all the time for lunch. Google Maps doesn’t show one t Chesterfield nor on St. Louis. Whatchya smokin’? :)

  7. Oh! You’re thinking of IN St. Louis! Well, since Skepticon is in Springfield (I know, right!?) I doubt they’ll be commuting 4 hours from here to St. Louee. :)
    (You’re not, Rebecca, are you??)

  8. I forgot to add that if any of my former students are there it is OK to buy your old high school teacher a beer. ;-)

  9. Hmmm… should have picked that up. Bummer. Hope it’s a great time. You should come by St. Louis sometime!

  10. I think Skepticon III should be held in Sweden. Preferably somewhere close to where I live. Like my livingroom. :)

There are very few interesting events of this kind here.

  11. Just wanted to say the presentation was so inspiring! After hearing it I have many new heroes, including you! I hope there are at least 2 other women speakers next year so that you’ll be at Skepticon III. This region is starved for skeptical thinking and feminism.
