Via Gawker, Brad Pitt goes on Bill Maher’s show and says this:
To the three who are watching, I just say you have to, you really have to check what country you’re living in because the freedom that allows you to practice religion is the same freedom you’re stepping on. That’s not right….And I want to add… if there was a nation of gay married couples that were telling you you couldn’t practice your religion, I’d be speaking up for you, too…. So, let’s stop the nonsense.

Wow. I used to be so indifferent about Brad Pitt, but over the last couple of years I grow to admire him more and more. Reasonable, compassionate, dedicated, THINKING! What a fantastic role model. I hope to see more of him doing this kind of thing, because, as Bill pointed out, people love Brad. Maybe he can get them to think as well.
When Brad Pitt first came on the scene, I wasn’t all that into him. He was too pretty. Then I started paying attention to him as an actor (12 Monkeys <3 <3), and to what he has to say. He just keeps getting sexier and sexier.

@marilove: I forgot about the too pretty thing. That was always part of my indifference. He looks like an action figure, and doesn’t seem to be aging AT ALL!!!! But smart=sexy (and rational=uber-sexy!).

When he put that cover out, I knew he was awesome.
Plus he really is a great actor.
As a middle aged overweight nerdy hetero male, it would be easy to be envious of Brad Pitt to the point of resentment, but the guy really does seem likeable. I thought he was good in Robert Redford’s “The River Runs Through It”. In fact, it just occurred to me that Pitt with his activist bent, good looks, and acting chops may be the new Redford.

I have long considered Brad Pitt to be one of the greatest actors of my generation(and gotten hell for it); its nice to see my point of view is coming around…
Oh yeah, if I were in New Orleans- he’d get my vote.
Now I’m even less ashamed to admit my huge man-crush on Brad Pitt. Awesome that he’s able to just come out and say stuff like that. I’m going to go watch Fight Club now.

Well, good for Pitt. It’s a breath of fresh air to hear a highly respected actor speaking some sense, rather than trying to peddle incense, peppermints, crystals, and wooptywoo.
That’s the Brad Pitt I know. I can tell you that’s exactly in character. (I know him from my airline time in Springfield, MO. Did you know that his Mom still picks him up at the airport? )
I’m not a huge fan of his movie career, but he’s one of the few VIP’s I have genuine respect and admiration for.
He also goes out to local restaurants and bars on occasion in Springfield. No one really raises an eyebrow anymore.
Just a genuinely likeable guy. Bill Murray is the same way, as was Ray Charles (RIP).
Does anyone else adopt imaginary family members? As in “I love James Randi, he’s like my dream grandfather.”

I usually considered Brad Pitt too “popular culture” to really care about, even though I’ve always been amazed by his performances in movies. But lately his philanthropic side has been coming to my attention more and I’m just utterly impressed by the man.
Always liked him as an actor but never was a “fan”. I think he just became “hot” (to me).

Brad pitt first caught my attention when I listened to the audio commentary on the Fight Club DVD. He and Ed Norton both struck me as intelligent and rational.(I later found out that Ed Norton graduated from Yale) Like the rest of you I appluad Mr. Pitt for standing out on this topic. Brad Pitt first crossed my radar in Interview With The Vampire, when he blew Tom Cruise off the screen with his acting chops. I know, not a difficult thing to do, but it raised my eyebrows when I had previously thought him to be just another pretty face. I have a lot of respect for him, his talent, and his political/philosophical positions.
I contemplated putting an ellipse after the word “blew” but figured it was implied anyway.

While I disagree with Brad and Bill on several things, I was very happy on Friday night to watch that.
I’ve always liked Brad, and that interviewer seemed a little retarded sitting next to him.
Brad could make a huge difference in the struggle for America to break free from dogmatic religion. This is great news!
The best man at my wedding is Brad Pitt’s IT guy. It’s OK, you can touch my robes.
I didn’t really pay much attention to him until I caught wind of his involvement with Angelina. I had followed her a bit, and got really interested in what she had to say… I was surprised to think of her being into a “guy like Brad”.
When I read (almost a year ago) about the pair being buddy buddy with Tom Cruise still, I panicked at little.. because the thought of Angelina AND Brad buying into Scientology broke my heart… It’s been nice to hear a little more in the past couple months about Brad’s philosophical and religious view-points…
And the biggest/best part of all is obviously the importance of his voice in Hollywood and growing international media influence..
I have to mention… he looks JUST LIKE my father in Inglorious Basterds… So you all basically just said you think my father, at Brad’s age, was hot :D
