Skepticism

Live in Philly? Missing TAM 7?

Me too! [Insert big, fat frowny face.] But there’s good news! We are not alone, and I hope to prove that on Saturday, July 11.

TAM 7 will be reaching its climax Saturday evening, with parties galore… So why don’t those of us who are stuck in the TriState area get together for drinks and banter? There are so many skeptics in the area that I have yet to meet, so this is as good a time as any!

I was thinking Sugar Mom’s in Old City. Drinking Skeptically with Skeptic Philly meets at Tattooed Mom’s on South Street, so I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. To avoid confusion, we’re planning on Sugar Mom’s. Now I know some of you will be in atTAMdence, so I’d like for as many of us as possible to get out for an evening. Just think of all the fun they’ll be having in Las Vegas without us! We can have fun, too!!

You don’t have to be a drinker. I’ll be sitting there with a Shirley Temple [They’re good – don’t hate.]. Just come and hang out for a while with really cool people. They’ve got arcade games, a pool table and lots of really cool stuff to look at, and if you really need extra motivation, I’ll see if I can save the bumber1875626-Yeah-we-know--if-you-drink--drive-your-a-bloody-idiot-0 car seat for you. I said it – bumper. car. seat.

Once I get an idea of how many of us there will be, I’ll figure out the rest of the deets (time, etc) and update. We’ll probably want to get there not-too-late, as it’s Old City and it gets crazy on the weekend.

Who’s in?!

Chelsea

Chelsea is the proud mama of an amazing toddler-aged girl. She works in the retail industry while vehemently disliking mankind and, every once in a while, her bottled-up emotions explode into WordPress as a lengthy, ranty, almost violent blog. These will be your favorite Chelsea moments. Follow Chelsea on Twitter: chelseaepp.

  1. Suh-weet! I’ll be in Vegas but I’m so glad you’re organizing something. You Philly kids needs to rock out more often.

  2. I know a good number of people who’d be interested in going…some are under 21 – is that alright?

Keep me updated, I’d love to go!

  3. I’d join you for a Shirley Temple or an O’Douls Amber, Chelsea. Someone has to be the designated driver, right? ;-)

  4. I WANNA, but it looks unlikely at this point since we probably will be out at Hershey Park with our nephew. :'(

Will let you know if things change.

  5. @haroldthebarrel: I actually don’t know what their carding policy is (I believe it’s at the door, not at the bar). I’ll ask around though! I’d love to have you all come out. If we can’t get you into Sugar Mom’s, maybe we can plan for a booze-free outing in the near future!

@QuestionAuthority: Haha come on down! I’ll be the lady with the big, white band holding her pants up. ;)

  6. I’m in! Although I suggest we meet at Tritone, but I’m willing to show up anywhere (parking lots, abandoned warehouses; you name it)

  7. T-mom’s only allows kids before 7, I’m guessing Sugarmom’s would be the same.
Tritone is nice, but it’s probably not big enough unless there’s nothing else happening there.
DSPhilly usually fills up the back section of T-mom’s on it’s regular 3rd Thursdays.

  8. OK, so I’ve been watching the weather for Saturday, and it would appear that my backup plan is not going to work. In an effort to include the underagers, I wanted to have a pizza picnic in Rittenhouse, but it’s supposed to rain. I unfortunately don’t believe in any rain gods to plead with in an attempt to hold the rain clouds at bay unil we’re done having our fun. But this will happen soon! I’ll figure out a sunny, happy day for all of us to get together with a few giant Lorenzo’s pizzas and make fun of people walking around with Jesusy pamphlets.

As for this Saturday, however, I’m keeping the plans the same. If anyone wants to get together before 7 (meaning not at 7 – that’s when the underagers get booted from the bar from what I could find out), let me know and I’ll update times. For now, let’s say 8? It gives us all time to do whatever errands we have planned for Saturday, but isn’t so late that if anyone takes PT they’ll get stuck.

    Who: YOU! And ME!
What: Hanging out skeptically, in lieu of TAM attendance!
When: Saturday, July 11 @ 8PM! (time subject to change, depending on your responses)
Where: Sugar Mom’s – 225 Church St Philadelphia, PA 19106!

Can we get a final headcount?

  9. Since Philly is the greatest city on Earth, there’s plenty to do on Saturday before 8 pm (minors – whether they mine coal or gold) are welcome at these events:

Tube Fighting in the shadow of the Art Museum:

The Storming of the Bastille (Technically, the storming of Eastern State):

If I don’t see y’all at these events, I’ll see ya’ at Sugar Moms.

  10. Chelsea, I will definitely be there. If I wasn’t out “paintballing” during the day I’d say we should be checking out the tube fighting. Yeah, I said paintballing – whuut?

  11. Woohoo! I’ll be leaving for the city in a moment. I just wanted to jump on here real quick to let you know that Church St is a half block North of Market St on 2nd. Turn right on Church St from 2nd and you’ll see Sugar Mom’s on your left – look for the neon sign.

Apparently on Google Maps, if you type in the address it takes you to the wrong side of the building. Not that I underestimate any of your abilities to navigate, but just in case!!

I can’t wait to see people. If you have any questions, DM me on Twitter: Foofoo_McKinley. I’ll be wearing a black shirt with an 8bit skull on it and a bright green skirt – for those who have no idea who I am in person.

W00T! See you at the bar!
