COTW!

Sorry for the late Comment o’ the Week, everyone! It’s because I didn’t feel like posting it earlier.

Let’s get right to it, shall we? This week’s COTW wins for being both funny and a frigging great idea:

At this point, I think the only way to get real science into the public consciousness is to slip it into viral videos and LOLcats.
“2 Girls, 1 Stem Cell Line”
“i’m in ur spaze telescope, lookin for erth-like planits”

I look forward to seeing this take off. Please link to your creations in the comments.

Steve – you win the ability to pick next Wednesday’s Afternoon Inquisition! Send it to us using the Contact form and we’ll put it into the line-up.

Happy Friday everyone . . .

  1. My reward is an assignment and a deadline? Oh, the pressure! :)

On the meme thing: I’d like to see a youtube channel called “2 Girls 1 Beaker” (or similar) that features Skepchicks (& friends) doing science lessons. You’d get a lot of people viewing initially out of curiosity and hopefully sticking around to learn something.

  2. HAHAHA, congrats Steve, this is SO totally deserving of COTW!!! (LMAO, I reread it and laughed again!)

  3. @Andrés Diplotti: LOLCat #3 made me laugh out loud. Thank you!

I am SO using that in my next presentation to our mixed team of physicists and biochemists. They are so pwned!

See that? Where I used the new hep-speak?
    Am I cool now?
    No?
    Oh.

  4. You don’t read http://community.livejournal.com/lolscience ?! There’s a whole community devoted to this stuff! There is also a Flickr pool owned by them if my memories are intact…

Also, a funny joke I just came across:

Police officer: “Have you any idea how FAST you were going back there?”
Werner Heisenberg: “Nope, but I knew EXACTLY where I was!”

There’s also a LOLscience group on livejournal, and Paolo Amoroso has a gazillion LOLspace cats on his blog.

@Steve: are you on flickr? If so, please add your tree lobsters to my group! kthxbai =^..^=

  6. @themadlolscientist: I’ve joined the lolscience group and added a few things. Lots of good stuff on there.

@Rebecca: I sent in an AI thingie using the contact form. I hope it’s not a repeat.
