Drinking Skepchickally California- Double your pleasure!

The time has come my Californian friends:  next week there are two Drinking Skepchickally (San Francisco and San Diego) meet ups for your imbibing pleasure.  As I’ll be attending both, by Friday I’ll be in a fine state in this fine state, and will probably look a lot like this:

A's favorite: The Buzzed Aldrin
a.real.girl +a Buzzed Aldrin + patented Skepchick eye roll + Surlyramics necklace= WIN.

Besides, it’s not just me who’ll be shining up these events, as I’ve confirmed some pretty cool guests too. (Although, unlike Rebecca, I’m not adding learnin’ to my drinkin’.   There will be no presentations at either of these events, outside of the odd bar trick, or maybe some a cappella karaoke.  There will, however, be Skepchick and Skepdude Calendars for sale.)  Northside & Southside details are after the jump.

Northside:

Drinking Skepchickally San Francisco, Wednesday, December 10th, 2008. 7:00pm. The 500 Club

Skepchick reader psdbny recommended The 500 Club, and as she works there, she’s making sure they’ll have ingredients on hand to make Buzzed Aldrins and Pangalactic Garbleblasters!  Rawk! (First round of Buzzed Aldrins are on me!)

We have two special guests I’m thrilled about, and if you’re here at Skepchick, I’m sure you will be too:

Dr. Kirsten Sanford will be joining us.  She’s the exquisitely talented host of the This Week in Science podcast, as well as The Science Word, a vidcast I love, love, love.  I’ve mentioned before that I’m a podcast junkie, right?  TWIS is on my DO NOT MISS list, and if you love SGU, you’ll love TWIS too.

Yau-Man Chan will also be there.  I met Yau-Man working on the Skeptologists pilot, but if you’re a Survivor fan, you’ll know him from Survivor: Fiji, and Survivor: Micronesia – Fans vs. Favorites.  When he’s not outsmarting competitors on network TV by being rational, funny and super cool, he’s the CTO of Berkeley’s College of Chemistry.

Day 2- Mt. Wilson Observatory

I’ve got feelers out to a few more skeptical friends in the Bay Area, which would only add to the kick-ass evening.  You don’t want to miss it.

Southside:

Drinking Skepchickally, San Diego, Thursday, December 11, 2008.  7:00pm. The Fleetwood.

This one’s all malidragon‘s fault.  She lives near San Fran, but is coming to San Diego on Wednesday. So, because she asked, we’re Drinking Skepchickally while she’s here.  I live here, so to spice things up for the local crew who are probably already tired of me, we’re adding more Skepchick!

Carr2d2's $2.00 Tip

That’s right kids, Carr2d2 is coming in from Minnesota!  I’m so damned excited.  Oh, and also?  Tim3P0 is joining her.  That’s right bee-yotches, The Droids will be in the house!  So San Diegans?  Angelenos?  Just don’t miss this.

And here too, I’ve got feelers out to a few more local skeptical friends, which would again, add more kick-ass to the evening.  I’ll keep you posted. As I’ve mentioned before, anyone who shows up in San Diego that was with us in San Fran drinks on me until they spill a drink on me.  Then you’re cut off due to the party foul.

  1. I find myself in quite the proverbial pickle. I want – I mean really want – to go to the SF event on Wednesday. But I have a Quantum Mech final on Thursday. Argh, the fates are so cruel…

  2. @Detroitus: Dude, no pickle at all. study this weekend, come early, don’t stay late. I’ll make sure you only have one Buzzed Aldrin.

    See? Settled.

  3. If I’m able to duck out of work a bit early, I’ll be in Frisco (I love writing/saying that because people who are from there are so easily annoyed by the term). We’ll see.

  4. Hmmm. It looks like Buzzed Aldrins make a.real.girl’s eyeballs fall out. :-D At least, that’s what it looks like from 2,500 miles away!

  5. Why couldn’t this have been LAST month, when I was actually in SF? Too far from Cleveland, alas. But I will drink Buzzed Aldrins in solidarity.

  6. I wish I could be in SF this time. *sob*

Would somebody give psdbny a huge hug and kiss from me? Tell her it’s from the Psycho Knitting Mum – she’ll know…

Can’t you plan a skeptical road trip to Myrtle Beach? Or Charleston? Charleston’s hip! My cousin Emily knows all the hot-spots!

And you’ve got Kiki Sanford on board, too! I’ve totally got the hots for her!

Damn you all to Yazoo City for living where I don’t!

    *I’m not a dirty-ass redneck. Pinky swear.

  9. Aww man. This is going to be fun. I hope I can figure out the Pangalactic Gargleblaster before I make the Buzzed Aldrins…Zoiks.

  10. Glad to see that the Buzz (Buzzed) Aldrin has achieved some traction! If I can ever get to SF during one of these things (I’m on the W coast often) I’ll buy them all night.

Maybe it is a good time to finally buy stock in Tang.
