Upcoming Event-itude, Boston & Philly!

First of all, obviously, Boston Skeptics in the Pub is tonight! Come hear researcher Sam Moulton discuss Twins, Telepathy, and Smut.

Second of all, not as obviously, I’m going to be in Philadelphia this Black Friday, November 28, and I’d like to meet up with everyone again for a lunchtime Drinking Skepchickally! I’m inclined to recommend the same Belgian place (Eulogy, which has a skeleton in a table [see below]) we were at last time since I have nothing better to offer up, but if you have better ideas, please let me know by commenting below. So long as we’re near a SEPTA station, I’ll be happy.

See you Bostonians tonight, you Philadelphians Friday, and the rest of you at some date to be determined in the future!

  1. Also, I meant to publish this a good 90 minutes from now, but alas, I am incompetent. So, I’m just leaving it. Sorry for all the Skepchick posts in a row!

  2. I would remind all that the R6 Manayunk station is a mere pair of blocks from my store. There are places to drink around here as well, seeing as it is Manayunk!

  3. Twins? I’m an identical twin! Too bad I can’t make it.

My twin sister and I actually did not get along for MANY years, and we’ve grown up to be two completely different people. She has kids, I don’t want any. She believes in god and church, I am a staunch atheist.

    They should study us!

  4. @kookbreaker2: I wouldn’t mind coming to Manayunk if it’s not too difficult to get there! Or, we could have lunch somewhere and then take a field trip to your store! I may need to consult a Google map…

  5. @Rebecca: It only takes two to drink, and the second person is optional. =)

Walt and Jason both indicated their interest back when you sent the first email, so I think I’ll try rattling their collective cage one more time.

We could probably get to Manayunk with a modicum of effort. (A “creationist’s IQ” of effort, if you will.) Time is the only real issue, but I don’t have anything else going on that day. Anything that doesn’t involve a mall is splendid in my book.

  6. For cars, Manayunk isn’t too hard to get to, but parking can be a pain. I just suggest using the Green Lane parking lot.

By train, the SEPTA regional rail R6 stops all of two blocks (or less) from the store. You can pick the R6 up from Suburban Station or the Gallery Station.

Black Friday isn’t too packed on Manayunk, but it does get some crowds. Nowhere near what the mall gets.

  7. @Rav Winston: I’m going to plan on getting to Eulogy at 11:30. Lunch and a beer or two, and then off to Manayunk to support local business. Maybe we can take Kookbreaker out for another drink while we’re there.

I will cross-post this to the email list. Anybody else who wants to join the Philly get-together can shoot me an email at oskar [at] suburbanpanic [dot] com.

  8. That sounds good! I may be there early though, if it’s the same train. . . like, 10:30. Sorry for the vague planning, this is tricky business, what with the lack of car and the family time and all.

  9. @Rebecca: No worries. I’m often at the whims of public transit. If you wind up getting to town early, there’s a Cosi at 4th & Chestnut (coffee and free wi-fi), and Eulogy opens at 11. If you don’t want to wander around by yourself, I could try and rally the troops to meet you at the train.

  10. Well, I’ll try to be there at 1:00. I have a foreign guest with me this week, so I’m dragging her along to see Philly.

Fear not– She pays for her OWN beer. :)
