Atlanta Skeptics RULE

A good time was had by all...What a weekend! I am exhausted from all the Atlanta skepticism and I’m not sure I ever thought I would type those words all in that order. Skeptics in the Pub and Atlanta Pharygufest had an amazing turnout. I think we probably had close to 100 people show up. Many thanks to Cleon for putting it together. Unfortunately, in all this, my camera died but lucky for me Tim from What’s the Harm and Pradeep both bailed me out by sending me their photos.

The crowd pretty much took over Manuels and kept PZ drinking until the wee hours of the morning.  More pictures below the fold!

Plus, I just got back from Lori Lipman Brown’s speech at the Atlanta Freethought Society.  As usual, Lori was funny and fascinating and I am so glad that she continues to speak for atheists, humanists and freethinkers with the Secular Coalition of America.  If you don’t know much about them, check out their website and make sure you sign up to get their action alert emails.  They’re really well set up and they make it really easy to send emails about important issues.  Right now, for example, it’s important that we write to our Senators to stop the passing of a bill that will create a commemorative coin for the Boy Scouts of America, an organization that explicitly discriminates against nontheists and homosexuals in admission, employment, and even volunteer opportunities.

So, all in all, an awesome couple of days and it’s got me even more excited about the Skepchicks trip to NYC where we’ll be seeing Lori again!  Plus, there are a bunch MORE Atlanta events coming up – make sure you check out the events calendar.  Check out more photos below the fold!

  1. We’ll have to show you an extra good time Masala to compete with the Georgians…although PZ will be hard to compete with. We have no famous Skeptics who aren’t also Skepchicks (unless Evan and Jay are convinced to go).

  2. How many times are we going to put Cleon on the front page of Skepchick? The feds will crack down on that eventually.

It was a good weekend, skepticwise. I was surprised to discover how many local skeptics we have here, and there wasn’t much overlap between SitP and the AFS thing.

PZ has at least one consecrated wafer, too. We’ll see what happens to it…

  3. Oh, the damn Boy Scouts. As an Eagle Scout, one of these days I’ll have to write a blog post about the Scouts and this crap. ‘Course, I’ll have to make me a blog first….

  4. Thanks to all the Atlantans? Atlantians? …….. uhm … people from Georgia who put this together. I was one of the GECCO attendees from out of town, and I met a lot of very cool people. Also, tell the folks at Manuel’s that I’m sorry for breaking a salt shaker. I hope I didn’t give godless infidels a bad name. Fortunately, as is the custom, I warded off the bad luck by throwing a mirror over my shoulder, so I think I’m good.
