TAM 6: Day Two

I’m writing this from Steve’s laptop while he’s in the other room being interviewed by a Vegas TV news station. I was just interviewed, and it was lots of fun except for that I had to rush back to my room to change (out of the see-through pants and into a dress), had no time for make-up, got lost in the hotel (I hate Vegas hotel/casinos so much), and got really sweaty. Good times!

If you’ve been following the Twitter (and you should, even if you’re here — I’ll be giving info on podcast guests, funny quotes, and locations unless my cell phone dies [which it might]), you know that we’ve spent the day interviewing TAM speakers. We got about 30 minutes each with Hal Bidlack, Richard Wiseman, Ben Radford, and PZ Myers. They were all a lot of fun — I love love love doing the show with the guys in person. In about 10 minutes, I think we’re interviewing Simon Singh, and then it’s off to the opening TAM reception! No one seems to have any clue about where it’s being held, but just in case it’s by the pool (as originally planned), I’m wearing my bathing suit under my dress. Didn’t have a chance to swim all day. Sam has spent the day tanning, I think, and Masala_Skeptic is in a poker tourney right now. I’m a bit jealous of both of them, but the interviews have been fun enough that I’ll get over it.

Also I’ve had no lunch and I think it’s starting to hit me. I hope this reception has something non-meaty to eat . . .

EDIT: pics are up at Flickr, more to come! ALso, it was Banachek not Simon, sorry. Okay, off to the reception…

  1. That sounds prettty damned fun (except for the getting lost…those casinos seem like they;re designed to disorient). And all that work today will only make tonight’s imbibeables all the more earned-feeling (not like not earning imbibeables ever stopped anyone). As chaotic as it is, I actually LOVE the sound in the casinos. It’s like David Behrman’s “Leapday Night” on coke.

  2. It saddens me that I’m across town from you all but can’t afford to go :( Also, I don’t think my 8 year old would be much fun at the bars :P

  3. I will not miss next year–and I can’t believe I’m not there right now.

That’s so great you and the rest of The Skeptic’s Guide crew interviewed Ben Radford–I’ve often wondered why you haven’t already had him on the show, as he’s by far one of the top skeptics out there.

Keep up the great work, and have a great TAM.

  4. I’m kicking myself — again.

A couple of years ago, Richard Dawkins was at a TAM, and I wanted to go, but talked myself out of the planning and expense because I thought he’d be the only speaker I was really familiar with.

Later, thinking about how long it might be before I got another chance to see and/or meet him, I really regretted not going.

Now, thanks to Rebecca and the SGU, I know there are people all OVER that place who I would enjoy hearing and/or meeting (especially the Rogues themselves), and I’m regretting making the same stupid decision again.

I hope everybody has a great time and comes away even more motivated to do the research, websites, podcasts, teaching, writing, and other skeptical activities they do.

Vegas is full of friggin’ GENIUSES, and I’m at work listening to people literally say that “book-learnin'” isn’t that important a consideration when voting for the next president!

Wild, rainbow-farting unicorns couldn’t keep me away next year.

  5. It does sound *so* awesome. If by some crazy administrative error this gig ever happens less than five thousand miles from where I live, I am totally there. Or maybe I should just hitch a ride on one of those rainbow-farting unicorns I’m hearing so much about. (They’ve gotta be able to fly as well, right? Don’t tell me unicorns aren’t magical and/or can’t fly.)

  6. “You make me jealous. Wish I was there. I hate you.”

“Word. Except, I totally don’t hate you!”

Word, word! Except, I totally hate Glenn Close!”
