- Breathtaking medical photography- I thought a duo of awesome medical photo links was a nice way to start the day. The fallopian tube photo just blows me away.
- Lake gets covered by balls- Chlorine + bromide + sunlight = the carcinogen bromate in your resevoir water. Solution? Shade it with a bunch of plastic balls usually used to keep birds off of water they shouldn’t be on. Thanks to my very own manslave partner for this one.
- Fight your migraines with left-handed sugars- “With a few sophisticated tricks, the German company can create sturdy molecules that tangle themselves up around a chemical that causes headaches. This snippet has been camped out on my brain for two weeks now! I haven’t been able to sort of classify the nature of my response. This is one of those things that sounds like a criticism, but isn’t meant that way. And by the same token it sort of is a criticism, but a minor one. It is in reference to the statement, “used to keep birds off of water they shouldn’t be on.” If you have water, and birds land on it, that’s exactly where birds are supposed to be. We are not the determiners of where and when and how birds should utilize “our” resources. You see? There’s no way for me to say it without sounding like a total jerk! But it’s been sitting on my mind like a bird on a black pingpong ball. Haunting me! And I know you didn’t mean it that way. I know you were making reference to a past use of the tech! But those things just get into my head. I’d be thinking about this five years from now if I didn’t say something.
It’s like gay bars. You open a bar. Gay people show up. It’s a gay bar. Same thing with birds. I am not even saying it’s “wrong” to use these bird balls. I am all for it! It’s just the presumptive attitude that the water is there for us and not for the birds that grates on me. Even though I know that’s not what you’re saying!
I used to drive by that lake every day, and never knew it was the “Ivanhoe Reservoir”.
