Boston Skeptics in the Pub: April 21

Hooray, we’ve confirmed our second Boston Skeptics in the Pub event, hosted by yours truly. Last month’s event with Mike the Mad Biologist was a rousing success, so we had to do it again (audio/video is here). This time around, join the famed and justly popular Marc Abrahams as he discusses “Improbable Research and the Ig Nobel Prizes.”

This is a free event where critical thinkers of all stripes are invited to gather together, talk, drink, socialize, and maybe accidentally learn something. We filled the joint up last time, so get there early for prime seating!

Marc’s bio is here, but here’s a taste:

Marc Abrahams is editor and co-founder of the science humor magazine Annals of Improbable Research (AIR) and its web site, www.improbable.com. He writes about research that makes people LAUGH, and then THINK.

Marc is the father and master of ceremonies of the Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony, honoring achievements that make people LAUGH, and then make THINK. The Prizes are handed out by genuine Nobel Laureates at a gala ceremony held each October at Harvard University and broadcast on National Public Radio and on the Internet.

Considering the crowd that showed up for the first event, you might want to get there early to get a good seat! I’ll be there around 6:45pm to set up the back room.

  1. I’ll be there. I know you all were anxious and uncertain whether you’d be attending, but you can relax now, reassured :-P

Looking forward to a good, silly, and informative talk!

  2. Argh.

I’d love to be there, but the day after this Dinesh D’Souza and Dan Barker will be debating “Christianity vs. Atheism?” at Harvard Memorial Church and I don’t think I can make it from Worcester to Cambridge on two consecutive days. Poor grad student and all that.

  3. Mike, you scared me! For a second, I thought you were saying it was the same night. I’m planning to attend the D’Souza debate as well, so I hope to see you there!

  4. Rebecca,

Too bad it isn’t! I can only imagine what the presence of about 50 drunken skeptics at the debate might do.

Then again, just two would probably work. ;)

  5. Rebecca, I’ll loan you my flask and fill it up with whiskey. It probably won’t be enough to get you through a couple of hours of listening to that asshole D’Souza, but it should help.
