There ain’t no party like a Midwest Skeptical Meet-Up Party cuz a Midwest Skeptical Meet-up Party don’t stop!

Who:

Skeptical and Atheist folk who would rather hang out with me and Hemant, The Friendly Atheist, and play Guitar Hero than drive up to Minnesota to hang out with Richard Dawkins

What:

Booze, Burgers, and two hours of free Guitar Hero!

Where:

Whiskey Road
1935 N Damen Ave
Chicago
(773) 252-8531
http://www.whiskeyroadchicago.com/index.html

When:

Saturday, March 22, 8pm-ish (We have exclusive use of the Guitar Hero room from 8pm-10pm)

Why:

We need to collect empirical evidence indicating that Chicago can rock just as hard as the East Coast.

How:

Through the power of awesome.

(did I mention we get two hours of exclusive, unadulterated, unabashedly free Guitar Hero?)

ETA: I forgot to mention that Whiskey Road is the former Darwin Bar… if that’s not awesome enough, it’s owned by Sacrilicious, LLC. How could we have a meet-up anywhere else?

  1. Wow, sounds neat. Way to go organizing something in Chi-Town.

What's the parking like? Is it a place where you can talk rather than having to shout?

  2. I'll be there. I'm not going to bother trying to drive/park. Looks like the place is only a few blocks north of the Blue Line Damen station. See ya'll soon!

  3. What’s the parking like? Is it a place where you can talk rather than having to shout?

It's in Bucktown. The parking is street parking. It's also near the Blue Line..

As for volume, I have no idea… I haven't been there.

All I know is that when I spoke with Juan (manager?) to set this up, he was incredibly accommodating. And they have $3 beer specials every night.

(I had also tried Cafe Ba-Ba-Re-Ba and they told me I had to pick a different day or have everyone show up at like 2pm. Tea and Crumpets with your Grandma parties are held at 2pm, not Skepchick Rock the Midwest All-night Awesome Fests.)

  4. Noooooo!!! >.<

Curses! I'm working for RDF all that weekend… in MN…

    *blink*

Oh well, perhaps next time… =/

  5. That's the same night Dawkins is going to be in MN? I may have to rethink what I said in the previous thread about making a trip down to Chi-town. Hmm.

  6. If we get a good turn-out we'll do it again.

If we don't, I'm going to hang my head in shame and convert to Scientology.

The choice is yours, Chicago — more Guitar Hero parties or more Scientologists?

  7. Off on a tangent:

Why do we call it "the mid-west"? I've folded my map of the United States in half, and Chicago is nowhere near the middle of the western half. Nevada is a better candidate for "mid-west". I understand the historical context, but isn't it about time that we stopped thinking of Kansas as "the West" and recognized the fine citizens on the other side of the Great Plains?

  8. Yeah, I always thought that was weird. I'm in Texas, and we're pretty much right in the middle, but people aways think of us as the west.

  9. you know, when I found out that Texas was in the Central time zone, I insisted the person who told me was wrong. They said that Texas was almost straight south of Illinois. I believe my exact thought was, "Wow. You're stupid."

Then I looked at a map. Turns out, I was stupid.

  10. I might be able to go. I'm about 3 hrs from Chi-town, so I'm going to try to drag some friends along if I can. I'm not sure I'll go if I can't.

  11. The really horrible part is that if I started driving from here, it would take about the same amount of time to get to the Atlantic ocean as it would to cross Texas… and then the same amount of time to get to the Pacific after that. Yet somehow, I'm in the "west." If you go straight north of me into Canada, you'll land in Ontario… I wonder if Canadians consider Ontario to me the west?
