I was thinking about our upcoming psychic challenge, and in so doing I realized that March is a great month for making predictions. We’ve got another shot to show off our wonderful powers with the upcoming NCAA basketball tournament.
Now, I know that most of us are kinda sciency-geeky types and maybe don’t pay any attention to sports, and that even if we do, not all of us come from the US and so can’t quite grasp the interest in collegiate athletics. BUT, as I see it, that’s no reason for us NOT to play along.
THEREFORE, I think I’m going to start up a Skepchick NCAA group over at Yahoo Sports, assuming anyone is interested. I don’t even care if you don’t know any of the teams. Honestly, most people don’t! The deadline for making picks is Thursday morning, and it takes all of five minutes if you aren’t too into researching it.
The group’s called “Skepchick Picks” and it’s a public group, so anyone can join here. I hope at least a couple people jump in on it. After all, correctly picking all 63 games would be QUITE the feat of psychicality :)
Are you kidding me? March Madness is only the single greatest sporting even in the history of history.
Not all of us are geeky science types. I not only know the teams, I can tell you the mascot and names of the coaches children.
And dig this, my boys from the University of Texas are seeded second in the South Region, the first round of which will be played right here in Houston. It’s gonna rock.

Oh, I thoroughly agree with you, Sam, 100%! I don’t know quite SO much about the teams/coaches/families, but the NCAA tourney has long been my favorite event in the sports calendar.
I remember when I was in high school, and the school offered trips to Europe at a (relatively) good price. Both years I went, these trips took place in March and I was caused GREAT pain to have to miss my beloved UConn Huskies. I recall talking with a couple of my friends and actually debating whether or not it was worth it to go on the second trip knowing we’d miss the Madness. That’s how much it meant.
So yes, everyone…keep on signing up! Maybe the Skepchicks/dude will throw in a prize for the highest placing finisher? I can’t say…but maybe they can! :-P
