Darwinian Valentine's Day Card Contest

Ah, Valentine’s Day… a day for love, over-priced chocolate, flowers, and…Darwin?

example

Yes, that is correct. The contest for this Valentine’s Day is to create your very own Darwinian Valentine’s Day Card.

The criteria for this contest is pretty simple:

  1. You can use any sort of medium you want: draw it by hand, on the computer with Photoshop, anything you can think of. Be creative, have fun with it!
  2. Keep it (relatively) clean.
  3. You can link to your entry in the comments section (if you have a flickr account or any other image hosting site). All entries should be in by Feb 12, 2008. On Feb 14th, Elyse and I will post our top four choices and you, the readers can pick the winner!

The prize for this contest: The winner will receive a custom avatar drawn by me! (If you have no idea what kind of art I draw, here is a link: www.velma.deviantart.com)

I hope everyone has fun with this contest! I even made an example for you all!

  1. Yay, I'm so excited to see what people come up with! I totally snorted at the example.

edited to add: in fact, the example is so funny you should put a little version above the fold so people see. Hee hee!

  2. Hey, I've just put together my entry. Not sure how to upload it so I've sent it to [email protected]. I quite like it actually, might give it to my significantly well evolved other.

  3. Hey Ben, if you have a flickr account or any other image hosting site account, you could upload the picture there, and then put a link here in the comments, that way everyone can view your entry. I can't want to see what you've come up with!

  4. Hmm..I like this contest! I'll have to put my art skillz to some good use. If I can think of something humorous/good…hehe. Love the example and entries so far!

  5. Oh! I'll probably fix up the original image to reflect this, but in case it's not clear the "deep organic bond" line from that last card is from Origin of Species.

  6. Incidentally, I know it's slightly past the closing date but I have had shingles.

And I really want to win :(
