Good morning! The turkey is stuffed and in the oven, the pumpkin pie is chilling in the fridge, and I am ready to clean my house and do the laundry. That’s my routine every year. Then the rest of the weekend is free.
I’d like to thank some people who have made a difference in the world for good this year:
First, thank you Rebecca for running this site and giving us all a place to hang out, chat, rant, and just generally enjoy the company of other skepchicks (and dudes)!
A few other people I’d like to thank are:
Richard Dawkins for starting a non-religious charity foundation that I feel good giving my money to.
Al Gore for having the guts to speak out about the dangers of global warming. Congratulations on winning the Nobel Peace Prize!
Sam Harris for starting a fund to pay to protect Ayaan Hirsi Ali from the Muslim fundamentalists who want to kill her because she is an infidel and has written about the horrors she experienced as a Muslim girl and young woman.
All the Naughty stores (updated link) who realize that not everyone in America is a Christian and that we shouldn’t be treated as second class citizens at this time of year if we celebrate something else besides Christmas. (And the Liberty Counsel for posting the ridiculous Naughty-and-Nice list and giving us something to laugh about, creating an air of secular holiday cheer!)
Philip Pullman for writing a really cool young-adult fantasy trilogy that isn’t full of religious innuendo, and that is giving the Christian nuts something extra to get their panties in a wad about while we are all having a good time reading and kicking back at the movies this winter.
These are just a few of the people I can think of who are giving their time to make this world better and safer, or just more fun. I hope that you’ll take a few moments today to send thoughts of thankfulness to those who come to your mind for doing the same.
Thank you, Rebecca, for the excellent work you do on the blog, the podcast, and everything else that you do, and thank you to WriterDD and all of the contributors to Skepchick. I'm going to repeat the same comment that I left on the Bad Astronomy blog: I've learned so much from you guys, and I've greatly enjoyed the discussions here. You guys do good work.

Over the past year, I have learned more each day about skepticism humanism and critical thinking. Although I can't say that I've even scratched the surface of everything to learn, it's been such a rewarding experience. Thank you Rebecca and Skepchick and all skeptics and truth seekers out there who have entertained and enlightened me this past year. For all you do I am truly thankful.
As an atheist, I never really got Thanksgiving. I never got why we in Canada had/have it a month earlier. Why my family (and others I grew up with who's families were atheist) even had the big day (sans prayers etc) when it was about being thankful to a diety primarily or so I seemed to gather.. Oh well. Happy belated day for thanking all sorts of people for doing all sorts of things for you. Its really an odd holiday if you remove religion form it whereas Xmas is all about Santa, which is cool for kids.
