Skepticism

A Psychic Mélange

I have a TON of stuff to post about, including the amusing way I spent my yesterday, but that has to wait just a bit. To get out a bunch of the other stuff, here’s a delicious variety of psychic-related amusements for your Sunday morning perusal!

1. Cold Reader Bingo

I love love love what Richard has done over on Skeptico. He’s whipped up these awesome Bingo cards to use while watching television “psychics” like John Edward and James Van Praagh! While watching these jerkwads working their magic, check off boxes every time they pull classic tricks like “I’m getting a name starting with ‘J’,” or “Your dear old departed granny gave you some jewelry . . ..”

Print the cards out and play with your friends!

2. Australians Busting on John Edward

Speaking of dopey cold readers, check out this YouTube clip of the hilarious comedy team, “The Chaser,” pulling an amusing prank on Edward!

3. Add to Your Reading List

I’m halfway through The Secret Life of Houdini, and it’s fascinating! Highly recommended — so far, an amazingly in-depth look at one of the most famous paranormal investigators ever.

4. Okay, a Little Bit About My Yesterday

It was definitely psychic-related, and I was going to post a photo but my computer freaked out and may have deleted them all, for which I am very, very, very angry. I think it had to do with my negative skeptical energy.

  1. Oh my freaking crap! I love the Chasers. Every clip I've ever seen of them is pure hilarity, and that one was certainly no exception. :)

Also: You are such a tease, Rebecca. Seriously. It's so not fair to tell us you did something awesome yesterday and then not tell us what it was.

  2. I liked 'Secret Life of Houdini' but there are a few errors. One terrible whoopsie that the proof-reader missed is that the river that Houdini jumped into here in Melbourne when he visited in 1910 was the Yarra, not the Yanna, a mistake that was repeated several times.

A great piece of trivia is that Houdini was the first person to make a powered flight on the Australian continent, and there are photographs of the event in the book.

  3. Speaking of reading, I finally got Flim-Flam! on interlibrary loan. I'm going to have to interrupt Quirkology (which I bought) to read it. And thanks for that Chasers clip. It was hilarious.

  4. Looks like Edward's goons got to YouTube and made them pull the video! Anyne know where else it may be posted?
