Skepticism

Hello Bostonist!

Today, one of my favorite blogs posted an item about my latest entry in the Talent Quest. It’s great to have more readers, especially from around my area. So, welcome Bostonist readers! We also probably have a few new people who found Skepchick through the story in the Boston Globe Magazine, so I’ll make this a general “howdy” to everyone from the Hub of the Universe.

To mark the occasion, here’s another Boston-based update (sorry, international readers, I’ll have more for you in a bit).

First, I just picked up tickets to see this year’s Ig Nobel awards, taking place Thursday, October 4 at 7:30pm on the Harvard Campus! I got the pricey seats because I’m that sort of girl. Please let me know if you’re going! If there’s a good-sized group, we can set up a pre- or post- hangout session in Harvard Square.

While I’m on the topic, check out Ig Nobel host Marc Abraham’s great blog Improbable Research. It’s always good for alerting me to research that’s insightful, quirky, bizarre, or all three.

Second, Harvard Humanist Chaplain Greg Epstein will be on WBUR’s Here and Now today to promote this evening’s Pete Stark event.

  1. Wow, this blog is already incredibly useful. Just bought a ticket for myself and my girlfriend. She's a scientist, and it's being held the day after her birthday, so, yeah, thanks for the pointer to a nice birthday present! And if there is a group gathering of sorts, hey, I like meeting new people.

  2. Great, dariusk, can’t wait to meet you and your girlfriend! I’ll probably set up something for right after the show, and announce it here on the blog.

  3. Oooh, I love the Ig Nobel ceremonies. Be sure to go to the talks the following day (usually in 54-100) for more ruckus and a chance to actually ask the winners questions.
